I like to think of myself as a pretty avid fangirl, when I want to be, but let’s face it: I’m not perfect.
Shocking, right? It’s okay. Take deep breaths. I’m sorry I gave you such a fright, but it had to be said.
I have a deep, dark confession.
Come closer. Closer. Whoa, no, not that close. Personal space, yo.
Sometimes, I am so head-over-heels in love with an author’s work, but for some reason, I don’t devour it all like the proper bookdragon I claim to be.
There. I said it, even if it breaks my heart. The truth is, there are writers that I love pretty much every word they put on paper, and yet, I still haven’t read all their books. Even though, rest assured, they’re on my TBR.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is dedicated to books by your favorite authors that you still haven’t read.
Because we’re all just a teensy bit slackers. Some of us more than others. Yeah, I’m looking at you, Janice.

1. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
I straight up have yet to read a Sanderson book that I haven’t immediately fallen in love with and ended up in a reading hangover afterwards, crying in a corner because the characters have forsaken me and the words have run out. Yet, for whatever reason, I had a hard time getting into Mistborn. I’ve started it probably three times, and it’s good, but my fickle mind always seems to wander off. Rest assured, I intend to read the whole series. Eventually. Don’t hold your breath.
2. Unwind by Neal Shusterman
I own this series. The whole thing. It has a very special place on my TBR bookshelf, which is exactly where it’s sat since I bought them and probably will for … several months, at least? I LOVED Scythe and Thunderhead and will be preordering The Toll, but I have mixed feelings about starting this series. I mean, I’m obviously going to read it. Obviously. It’s just a matter of when.
3. Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams
I also own this one. There, um, seems to be a pattern? (Hint: If I go missing, these books revolted and did me in for neglecting them.) I’m in love with Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so the next step seemed like these books, of course, and I do look forward to reading it. I just have to be in the right mindset for Adams, and I haven’t been there yet.
4. American Gods by Neil Gaiman
I got this book for Christmas last year, and never mind that it’s been a whole year since I got it, okay? I’ve been busy. Neglecting this. I feel bad, all right? Are you happy? I actually saved this one intentionally, I swear. I thought that since it was becoming a TV show, it’d be a good idea to read the book and then be able to binge the series. Whether or not it’s a good idea remains to be seen.

5. 95% of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
Guys. Guys. I’m going to be honest. There’s a lot of freaking Discworld books. I love them all, I truly do, but it’s going to take me time. Lots of time. Maybe more time than I have. I might just come back to haunt people as they read the books so I can read over their shoulder until I’ve finally managed to read them all, and then maybe my soul can rest in peace. But probably not because then there will be more great books to read. You see my dilemma?
6. Beartown by Fredrik Backman
I’ve started this, and I’m sure I’ll love it, but when I picked it up, I just wasn’t in the right mood for it. I’m not normally a mood reader, but every now and then, being in the wrong mood just shuts down certain books, which was the case for this. I’m still super excited about getting around to it, though, along with its sequel, Us Against You.
7. The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice
I read the first, I think, three books? Maybe four. All of which I’ve promptly forgotten, except a vague recollection of being impressed and loving them. Eventually, I will set a whole month aside and just whip through the whole series, including the new ones.
8. The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews
This is 100% me cheating, because this doesn’t come out until 2019. 2019! *shakes fist at the sky in rage* It’s so far away, and I’m still slightly coming out of my reading hangover from A Thousand Perfect Notes, so I’m counting this. Because I am irked that I haven’t read this yet. If someone would just let me borrow their time machine for, like, five minutes, you’d really be doing me a favor …

9. Dawn/Day by Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel is a treasure, and I absolutely loved Night, even if it broke me. The thing is, I need to be in a really specific, healthy mindset before starting these books. I’ve actually only gotten them recently, and I haven’t been in that headspace just yet, so they’ll sit on my shelf, waiting patiently, until I’m there, I’m sure.
10. The Humans by Matt Haig
Aha! This is the only book on this list that I don’t actually own yet, but I’d still like to read it. I love Matt Haig’s writing style and his quiet, witty, and insightful way of making a reader question everything they think they know about life. So unlike all the others on this list, the thing really holding me back on this one is getting a copy of it!
What are some books by your favorite authors that you haven’t read yet?
I’m with you on Discworld (and really, Pratchett in general because he wrote so much more next to Discworld). I also want to read Dirk Gently at some point in the future.
Ahhh that’s so true, but I didn’t add the other books because, gosh, that’s depressing. xD But I also own Good Omens, The Bromeliad, and The Nation. And now I’m sad. I should go read Good Omens, at the very least lol.
I really want to read American Gods too, and just more Gaiman in general. There are definitely authors I love that I haven’t read everything from yet…but I’m getting there! LOL It’s hard being a bookworm.

Being a bookworm is a full-time, lifelong pursuit, for sure. And just when you think you’ve started to catch up, they go and release even MORE books you have to read! Which is rude. XD There are several others of Gaiman’s that I really want to read and haven’t, either, but I really only started reading him last year and fell in love, so I’m totally using that as my excuse.
What a great list of authors/books.
Although, I have to say, I’m in the opposite camp when it comes to watching tv/movies based on books. I want a MINIMUM of a year between reading and watching. Because otherwise, I’m just waiting for THIS LINE or THAT ACTION, and not just enjoying the movie as it comes.
If you enjoy seeing exactly where a book and tv/movie deviate and want to judge ‘who did it better’, consuming them in close succession is probably preferred. If you want to just enjoy them…
That’s such a good point! And I considered that, but if I reeeeally liked the book, I’m going to be annoyed at the movie series anyway if it doesn’t do the book justice. But if I watch the TV series while I’m coming down from a book hangover, I’ll be excited just to be in that world again and hang out with those characters, so maybe I’ll be more forgiving? I don’t know. I’ve never tried it before, so I shall sacrifice myself in the name of science! xD
Usually, though, I watch the thing before reading the book because then I’m even more appreciative of the book and tend not to be disappointed. But Gaiman naturally demands to be read first lol.
I made my rule after reading the 5th Harry Potter the week the movie came out.
Right up there with not seeing more than 1 trailer for a movie. Because then I’m just spending the time between my fav bits waiting for them.
Oooh yeah, I can see how that’s a problem. I don’t think I’d be able to read something and then watch the show *that* close together, either. There’s gotta be a little cooling off period for me, too.
I am also a terrible fan, LOL. Oh well, we’ll get to our picks when we get to them.
We should start a club! The Terrible Fan Club. We would never have meetings and probably never pay dues and really, it’d just be something pretty and shiny to boost our egos as part of a club, because we can’t even read authors we like. Of course we won’t participate in a club. Pfft. xD
The Unwind series is so good, I loved it! I did also enjoy Scythe and Thunderhead but I much preferred the Unwind series!
I’m so glad to hear you say that! I think you’re the first one I’ve talked to who preferred that over the Arc of a Scythe series. 😀 I’ll have to get caught up on my ARC reads and sneak those in soon, because I’m dying to read them, but I want to read them all back to back, for the full effect. 😉
I loved Unwind. I binge-read that series so fast. I need to read Beartown, too. I’ve read 4 Backman books, but not that one. I hope you enjoy all these!
That’s what I’m hoping to do, is binge read them! Just have to find the time, because I don’t want to start and get interrupted. 🙂 I’m glad to hear you liked them! Are you planning on reading Dry when it comes out?
Unwind is one of my favourite series, it’s what made me love Neal Shusterman’s books! I still have to read Thunderhead though, really enjoyed Scythe, just haven’t got to it yet!
My TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2018/09/25/top-ten-tuesday-178/
Thunderhead is everything that was great about Scythe x50 and throw in a bit of chaos, random screaming (okay, it might have been me), and one hell of an ending (and where is Toll already?! The wait is killing me.) So … yeah, you should read it. xD
Are you planning on reading his book Dry when it comes out?
That sounds AMAZING. Will definitely have to get to it when I have an extended period of time to read. I think so, it sounds interesting, though I might not get it as soon as it comes out.
