I’m convinced that my TBR is growing its own consciousness and will eventually take over the world.
Sorry? Or maybe you’re welcome. Who knows, my TBR might be a really effective ruler and provide free books to everyone.
My Goodreads TBR shelf is 336 titles, and that’s not including the books I have on my TBR shelf at home and those in the endless void I call my Kindle.
And wow, how did they all get there? Who’s been adding books to my TBR when I’m not looking?!
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is dedicated to the last 10 books I added to my TBR.
10. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
This was added last night because wow, I just really can’t help myself. Fun story, though. I took my mother-in-law out to Huddle House for her birthday and was complaining about how much I hate the characters in the book I’m currently reading … and 30 seconds later, the waitress comes up and spots the book and tells me how much she loved it. Awkwaaaaard. We did realize we liked some books in common, though (shout out to The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein) so she recommended this and made it sound so interesting that I had to go look it up.
9. McRyan Mystery Series by Roger Stelljes
One of my Goodreads friends actually recommended, like, book two, I think, of this series. But what kind of monster enters a series at book two?! Since I’ve got KU for three months, I plan to use it to jump into this series. It sounds great and will be a nice change from what I normally read.
8. Fools Rush In by Janice Thompson
This was also a recommendation from a Goodreads friend! Because not only do I have the best Goodreads friends, but they are filthy enablers, and I wouldn’t have them any other way. I don’t read a ton of romance, but Thompson hooked me with her opening, and I just love the tone of this, so it’s looking like a really cute read!
7. Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa
So, I finished Shadow of the Fox. And immediately added this to my TBR. You know, like you do. Also, can we appreciate that cover for just a minute? Yes, please!
6. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
I bought this for my husband, because he’s a big Brandon Sanderson fan. Yup, yup. Had nothing at all to do with the fact that I want to read it. *gasps and clutches pearls* How could you even insinuate such a thing?!
5. Small Spaces by Katherine Arden
I like ghost stories. Even middle grade ones. Yet, an adult recommended this to me (though, I can’t remember who because, you know, all these books take up so much space in my brain that who has room for remembering things like names and dates and other people?). It just sounds so spooky and cute and brilliant and like something my daughter would love to read together.
4. Goblin King by Kara Barbieri
So, I finished reading White Stag. I have … mixed feelings. Which is why my review’s not
3. The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson
Ya know, I have no idea how this got here. I don’t even remember the summary. But you know what? It sounds freaking fantastic. I suspect that I saw the word jinn and a Muslim/Spanish setting and that was enough for me. And it is. I’m a very simple person, okay?
2. How To Make Friends With The Dark by Kathleen Glasgow
So, I’m 95% sure this is going to just rip my heart out and mercilessly stomp on it while laughing fiendishly the whole time. And I’m sort of okay with that? I have to be in a certain mood for a feels book, but man, this sounds like it’s going to be so worth it.
1. Tristan Strong Punches A Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia
This one is SO FAR AWAY. But I’M SO FREAKING EXCITED FOR IT. African Gods invading our world? SO MUCH YES. WHY DON’T I HAVE IT YET? *sulks in a corner, forsaken and bitter*
I don’t usually read middle grade, but I love Katherine Arden’s Winternight series so much I’m thinking about adding it!
I actually haven’t read the Winternight series yet, even though I totally bought them last year. xD I’ve heard so many good things, though. Small Spaces might feel different, even if it’s the same author, just because of the audience shift, but I’d definitely recommend giving it a try. 😀 It sounds wonderful.
