It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Why do books have to end?
What will we do with ourselves now?
Why have the authors forsaken us?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking on a World of Words.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe    What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

This book, guys. THIS BOOK. I had previously read The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Saenz and didn’t love it, but everyone talked so highly about this book that I was convinced to give it a go. And they were right! But shhh, don’t tell them. I devoured this book in one day, I just loved it so much. The characters were so relatable, and I just loved Dante. How could you not?

What Could Possibly Go Wrong? by Jodi Taylor

Book five was a big miss for me, and despite loving the humor, I wasn’t sure about continuing this series. Book six changed my mind. The writing felt so much more solid than the previous series, in my opinion, and it felt like the plot had an actual direction. New characters, new scenarios. It sort of fell into a problem of being a bit formulaic (choose new easy mission, go on said mission, something inexplicably goes wrong when it shouldn’t, find a way to not die). Still, it was a fun, quick read.

Hero at the Fall (Rebel of the Sands, #3)

Hero at the Fall by Alwyn Hamilton

Click For Goodreads Summary

When gunslinging Amani Al’Hiza escaped her dead-end town, she never imagined she’d join a revolution, let alone lead one. But after the bloodthirsty Sultan of Miraji imprisoned the Rebel Prince Ahmed in the mythical city of Eremot, she doesn’t have a choice. Armed with only her revolver, her wits, and her untameable Demdji powers, Amani must rally her skeleton crew of rebels for a rescue mission through the unforgiving desert to a place that, according to maps, doesn’t exist. As she watches those she loves most lay their lives on the line against ghouls and enemy soldiers, Amani questions whether she can be the leader they need or if she is leading them all to their deaths.

I’ve been putting off reading this, because if I finish this, that means the series ends. How could it do this to me?! *sobs* At 75% of the way in, I’m absolutely loving it so far and expecting to hopefully finish it tonight, because I’m dying to know what happens. Also, the Djinn are every bit as awesome as I’d hoped they’d be personality-wise.

Upcoming Reads
Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow    The Book of M     Gemina

I really wanted to start Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow, but I made myself wait, because these other library books were due first. But since those are out of the way now … it’s miiiine. All miiiine! *insert evil laugh here*

The Book of M is another library loan due soon, but with a little time left. I’ve been really hankering for some more dystopian books, and this seems like a good place to start. Pair that with Gemina, because I need a little more AIDAN in my life, and I’m excited for all the delicious sci-fi dystopian possibilities.

    • YES! I loved Illuminae, and I don’t want too long to go between reading the rest of the series, because there’s so much to unpack in them and I don’t want to start forgetting.

    • Hero at the Fall has been my TBR forever too. I loved the second one and I think I’m a bit nervous to finish up the series too.

      • IT IS SO WORTH IT. AHHHHH. I just finished it, like, half an hour ago. The ending was beautiful. I loved the way Hamilton decided to wrap it up, but I won’t give any spoilers other than to say that even though I has sad because the series is over, the third book is so worth the read. :3

    • Yeah, I love the humor, and it frustrates me that she can’t seem to hold the plot together. The trouble started out seeming more natural in book six (you know, not like the grandiose things that went wrong at first, but things that were natural threats of the time). But it got worse towards the end, where the conflict became entirely fabricated by the people. Again. xD Someone I know said that she thought books seven and eight were even better, so that’s something to look forward to. 😀

I highly recommend it, if you can get your hands on it! I was waitlisted in a very, very long line of people wanting to read it (and now I see why), so it took me some time to finally get to it.

    • YA romance isn’t typically my thing, either. Well, actually, any romance isn’t usually my thing, because I’m not romantic and generally like my romance to involve knives and threats and the potential for bodily harm. xD But, you know, in a good way. But Aristotle and Dante were just so dang sweet.

    • I’ve got Aristotle and Dante on my TBR but don’t have a copy available atm. One day I’ll read it 😊

Yes ADIAN! I need to read Gemina too. I hope you like it.

      • It’s so hard, when half your TBR are things that you have to buy in order to read. xD I have a limited book-buying budget, but it seems that my tastes seem to be more niche and my library doesn’t have the books. I hope you can get a copy soon!

  1. I have seen Aristotle and Dante around for what seems like forever. I have added it to my Goodreads TBR but I still haven’t gotten around to reading it. The Illuminae Files trilogy were among my favorites of last year. I have been rereading them this year by listening to the audiobooks of them.

    • Oooh, how are the audiobooks? I’m sort of interested in how one takes something so visual, like the way the books were formatted, and turn that into an audiobook.

      • Everyone raves about the audiobooks and says that you should definitely listen to them. I do enjoy listening to the audiobook it full cast and there are sound effects. I have an unpopular opinion though. I would say if it’s your first time reading them you should definitely read the book or at least follow along in the book while you are listening to the audiobook.

          • I love audiobooks. The audiobooks for these books aren’t bad by no means I just feel like I got more from actually reading the book but I definitely think that if you followed along with the book while listening to the audiobook it would be so amazing.

  2. I’ve been meaning to read Aristotle and Dante for quite some time. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Gemina and the rest of the series are amazing, and I hope you can get to them soon!

    • Thanks! Me, too. Having to wait is killing me, but I have books due before then that I really should get back lol. Being an adult is hard sometimes.

        • Right? My library is small, so it’s usually not a big deal to renew things, because most times, nobody’s really waiting for it. But still. I don’t like doing that too many times with one book, in case someone is waiting for it and just didn’t put a hold or something. Makes me feel bad for hogging all the good books. xD

    • … wait … they can do that? *looks at all the series I’ve meant to start/finish* Oh, noes! Do you think my boss would consider that enough of a threat to give me some paid time off to catch up on reading? xD

    • I can’t recommend it enough. 😀 It’s not even a genre I normally read (which is why it took so long for me to pick it up), because space sci-fi usually annoys me … but I love it!

    • That’s a shame, but I can see how it really isn’t for everybody. I definitely had to move out of my comfort zone for Illuminae (and still, text speak makes me soooo twitchy, so that part was super annoying, even if accurate). My motto is there’s so many great books out there and life is too short to spend it on books you don’t enjoy. 🙂

    • If you like contemporary stories, I highly recommend it! It’s not just some sweet, fluffy story. These kids are going through *a lot* and trying to figure out who they are and their place in the world. But that was a large part of the beauty of it. Their struggles were so dang relatable.

    • Just started it, and it’s interesting so far. I really liked the idea of memories being stored in shadows and people losing them, so we’ll see how it ends up going. 🙂 Have a good week!

  3. Gemina and the book of M are both on my TBR. I keep hearing great things about Aristotle and Dante so I’m thinking about adding it to my TBR.

    • I sooooo recommend Aristotle and Dante! You should definitely add it if you’re at all a fan of contemporary and low-key romance (you know, the slow-build, shy, teenage sort). Although, to be fair, I’m not even much of a fan of romance at all, and I only sometimes read any contemporary literature, and I still really liked it. xD
