It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Who framed Roger Rabbit?
What’s eating Gilbert Grape?
Dude, where’s my car?
Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think youβll read next?

This. Book. THIS BOOK! Ahhhh. It’s all adventure and gunfights and random things flying through the air and craziness. From the moment I picked it up, I didn’t want to put it down, and I want the sequel already. The characters are fantastic, and Teagan is SOOOO freaking relatable. The only downside to this is that I read an ARC, so now I have to wait that much longer until the sequel is released. D:

You know those dog POV books everyone loves so much? Well, this is a fox POV book. It was so very sweet. It ended up being a coming of age not just for Pax, but for his boy, Peter, and the way the two characters grow was fabulous. The only real complaint I had with this book was the way it ended. Pax’s arc was wrapped up, but it felt like Peter’s was wide open, and I had so many questions left, and I was sort of annoyed that that was it.
Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa
Status: 12%
One thousand years ago, a wish was made to the Harbinger of Change and a sword of rage and lightning was forged. Kamigoroshi. The Godslayer. It had one task: to seal away the powerful demon Hakaimono.
Now he has broken free.
Kitsune shapeshifter Yumeko has one task: to take her piece of the ancient and powerful scroll to the Steel Feather temple in order to prevent the summoning of the Harbinger of Change, the great Kami Dragon who will grant one wish to whomever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. But she has a new enemy now. The demon Hakaimono, who for centuries was trapped in a cursed sword, has escaped and possessed the boy she thought would protect her, Kage Tatsumi of the Shadow Clan.
Hakaimono has done the unthinkable and joined forces with the Master of Demons in order to break the curse of the sword and set himself free. To overthrow the empire and cover the land in darkness, they need one thing: the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. As the paths of Yumeko and the possessed Tatsumi cross once again, the entire empire will be thrown into chaos.
This was a late ARC approval, but I really enjoyed Shadow of the Fox, especially the way it read like an anime. Basically combined the best of both worlds. I’m not very far into it yet, so I don’t have many opinions except that Hakaimono is brutal and I sort of love it. I’m excited to see where this will go.
I’ve got some pretty big library books out, and I have no idea how many of them I’ll be able to get to in the next week. Probably not all. Kingsbane ended up getting pushed back because of the last-minute approval of Soul of the Sword, but I need to get that read and brought back to the library.
I have several other books out on Overdrive, which I should work on getting through! One of them is Into the Drowning Deep. I’ve been meaning to try Mira Grant’s work for a while to see how it differs from Seanan McGuire’s work under her original name. This book sounds so freaking good that I hope it lives up to it.
And then there’s Obsidio, which I’m both dying to read and don’t want to finish because then it’s over and then what will I do with myself?
Iβve finished typing up my draft review of a dog POV book I, Cosmo so Pax has just sharpened my attention- I will definitely have a look at this I love foxes!!
I’d definitely recommend it! It had some real The Fox and the Hound vibes going for it, but different, and with the backdrop of a war.
Totally jealous about your latest Julie Kagawa read! I still need to read ALL of her books because I’m so into what I’ve read so far! I’m gonna hopefully start Shadow of the Fox soon since I have that.
Also, thanks for the recommendation of The Girl who could move sh*t with her mind! I’ve never heard of it but you make me want to read it!
Actually this whole post makes me want to add everything to my TBR. This is why I can never get it down to a reasonable level but I’m okay with that! lol
I hope you enjoy Shadow of the Fox! I’ve seen some people not really like it, but if you’re a fan of anime/manga, the style will feel pretty similar, which tends not to be as common in Western YA, so maybe that’s why. Okame is definitely my favorite, so you’ll have to tell me what you think when you meet him. π
Definitely highly recommend it! I’ve already followed the author while I wait for news of the sequel. Pretending to be patient.
Reasonable levels are for people with no real goals in life. Pffft. Who needs to be sensible? Mark my words, the person who invents immortality will do so because they’re trying to find a solution to be able to read everything on their TBR. π
Your enthusiasm for The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind has really got my attention. Gonna have to at least add it to my mountainous to-read shelf so it doesn’t slip my mind now that you’re finished with it. Have a great week!

Definitely gonna have to recommend that one if you like sarcasm, reluctant heroes, and non-stop action.
I love the sound of The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind! Definitely adding it to my wishlist… Have a wonderful week and happy reading!
I hope you enjoy it when you get to it! I should be doing a full review for it … umm … this week. When I have time. xD Summer vacation is messing with my schedule haha. Enjoy!
Haha I totally get that! The only way I’m getting in my posts regularly is by using the magical schedule button. π
I really need to start doing that, but I’m always so suspicious about trying to schedule something and it going wonky. I should get over that. Scheduling seems easier lol.
I’ve been using it for a long time and I find that as long as I triple check the date and time of posting, it tends to go up when I want it to. π
Maybe I’ll try it this week. If it breaks or, like, the internet explodes, I’m going to point the appropriate authorities your way. xD Totally not my fault. π
Haha should I hide just in case? xD It helps scheduling for a time you know you can be online the first few times just so you can check if everything looks alright… It took me while to start trusting WP with my posts. π
Thanks for the tips! I have to volunteer first thing tomorrow, so maybe I’ll try the scheduler then. :3 Time to cross my fingers and hope it works!
Ahhh, so glad to hear that you loved The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind! Addicting reads are the best (well, not for productivity, but that doesn’t really matter π)
And oooh, I’ve been eyeing Into the Drowning Deep for awhile now also! Though I haven’t read any Mira Grant or Seanan McGuire before. (Hopefully I’ll change that soon– I recently acquired a copy of Rosemary and Rue!)
Hope you have another great week of reading!
Pffft, productivity is so overrated!
I recommend the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire. π It’s a novella series, and it’s a lot of fun, plus quick reads.
Haha, so true!
And oh yeah, I momentarily forgot about that series! I also have the first book of that series sitting unread on my shelf. π
There will be no judgment from me on that. xD I have the first books of many series sitting unread on my shelves, ha! So I know how you feel.
So glad you loved The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t, I loved it too. And Into the Drowning Deep is sooo good, enjoyπ
Oooh, I’m glad to hear that! Thanks. π Looking forward to it.
I can’t wait to read The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t–it sounds like a really fun and kickass read! Pax also sounds really interesting; the dog perspective books are really hot right now(?) but I actually haven’t read any yet lol Also, really curious what you’ll think of Into the Drowning Deep. I’ve heard a lot of people saying it’s such a good read and part of me really wants to read it, but I’m too scared (but I still really want to read it). I’m so weak when it comes to horrors damnit π
I definitely thought it was! Where’s my sequel? MOAR BOOK! *smashes mug on the ground*
I enjoy dog perspective books, but I almost feel like they’re getting a little overdone in that they feel like the same basic message every single time. So I’m a little choosy with things that I think will be a more unique approach.
I have a love/hate relationship with horrors. I can freak myself out so easily, but I LOVE reading scary things. I don’t like gore, and I don’t like jump scares, but if it’s just creepy and eerie and haunts you, that’s totally my jam. That being said, I’ll definitely be reading that during the day and something else at night. xD
Thanks for turning me on to Pax! My aunt looooooves those animal POV books and she’s notoriously hard to buy for, so a note has been made. (Really, this could be a lifesaver.)
So glad to have helped! If she reads a lot of those books, I felt like this was unique enough for the dog POV books that it felt new and not the same rehashed story. π I hope she likes it. π
The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind Sounds so good! I need to add it to my TBR and get a copy ASAP. I am so excited to pick up Soul of the Sword soon. I’m hoping I finish my two current reads ASAP, so I can finally read it. I hope you enjoy your upcoming reads!
It was really good! If you like adventure, non-stop action, and sarcasm, it’s a winner.
I hope you get to it soon! I’m now 30% of the way through and phew, there’s a lot to enjoy. π
I need to reread The Illuminae Files before I get to Obsidio. I waited too long in between. Hoping to read Shadow of the Fox soon, too.
That’s what I’m afraid will happen if I wait too long, and as much as I enjoyed the books, I’m not ready to re-read them yet. xD Hope you enjoy!
I haven’t read any of these, so I’m excited to read your reviews!
Thanks!
I’ve seen The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind everywhere recently, it looks so good, I’m going to have to read it.
Highly recommend it! It comes out soon, and it’s definitely worth picking up. :3
