It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Where’s My Cow?
Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
What if It’s Us?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking on a World of Words.

Before getting to the books I read this week, I just want to say that I’ve hit 200 followers! I so much appreciate all the support, and as a thank you, I’m holding a 200 follower giveaway for a book from Book Depository. So check that out if you’re interested in the chance to win a free book.

My review for this will go up tomorrow, but this book was just … phew. It was a ride. It was a little slow to start off with, I felt, but once it got going, I had to find out what was going to happen! This book also introduces a romance that I am 100% on board with and ship and OMFG I want to talk about this, but spoilers and … gah! It was the perfect pairing, though. I felt like Yumeko really started coming into her own in this book and was less of an innocent bystander and more of a participant, which I loved! Even Hakaimono was quite endearing. You know, despite the whole murderous demon thing. AND THE ENDING. OH, THAT ENDING. I wasn’t expecting it, but I love it so much.

Rielle Dardenne has been anointed Sun Queen, but her trials are far from over. The Gate keeping the angels at bay is falling. To repair it, Rielle must collect the seven hidden castings of the saints. Meanwhile, to help her prince and love Audric protect Celdaria, Rielle must spy on the angel Corien—but his promises of freedom and power may prove too tempting to resist.

Centuries later, Eliana Ferracora grapples with her new reality: She is the Sun Queen, humanity’s long-awaited savior. But fear of corruption—fear of becoming another Rielle—keeps Eliana’s power dangerous and unpredictable. Hunted by all, racing against time to save her dying friend Navi, Eliana must decide how to wear a crown she never wanted by embracing her mother’s power or rejecting it forever.

I’m not even sure where to start with this book. I mean, the plot is fantastic, and I’m dying to know what happens. But it’s so loooong, in a draggy sort of way. It’s also about 70% romance and 30% dark fantasy. If they had just cut the dang romance in half, this book would be half the size and I’d probably like it more.

I loved Eliana in the first book, but here? She’s a bit … weepy and whiny and insecure. I want my Dread of Orline back. In the meantime, though, watching Rielle spiral and fall has been fascinating. I’m really enjoying it. And the juxtaposition between the two queens? Poignant and perfect. The dual timelines/povs really works well here.

Upcoming Reads
Into The Drowning Deep     Obsidio     Kill The Farm Boy

This was such a light reading week for many reasons, so I’m not as far on my TBR as I had hoped. Oops? That means Into The Drowning Deep is still my next read, before it expires next week. Following that, of course, is Obsidio so I can get that back to the library.

Also, remember how I’m bad at sticking to TBRs? Well, I’d like to say, in my defense, this one wasn’t entirely my fault, per se. You see … the librarians are sort of my wingmen. Which isn’t their fault, because it’s their job and they don’t know the state of my TBR. But still. Long story short, the library just got book two of The Tales of Pell and it was pointed out to me and recommended and obviously that means I’m required to read it. I’m pretty sure that’s in the rules somewhere. So I now also have Kill The Farm Boy to read before getting back to ARCs. I ain’t even mad about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Thanks! I started it this morning in-between volunteering, and man, it’s so good so far. Really starts with a bang, doesn’t it? I’m a sucker for monsters of the deep books and movies. xD

  1. If I dont start the illuminae series I’m going to barred from blogging. And yes this time I actually did the WWW!!!

    • Haha, and I found it! I can work computers! Yes. Putting that in my successes for the day.

Maybe not barred from blogging. We might just lock you in a room and make you listen to Barney songs until you either go insane or cave to peer pressure and finally read it. 😛

      • Yay!

Ugh no! Not Barney!!!! Ahhhhh! I have literally had that book on loan from the library so long I’m waiting for them to tell me to just keep it when I go to renew it. Its like when Alice VanEck starts singing in Crooked Kingdom and they all think it is apart of some scheme to make them go mad lol

        • lol I know the feeling. xD I think I’ve had Obsidio for almost a month now and I’m like … I really need to read this thing already. It feels like something keeps on coming up and pushing it back.

  2. Yvo

I can’t wait to get a copy of Into The Drowning Deep! I love her Wayward Children series, but I’ve yet to read any of her Mira Grant titles. Have a wonderful week and happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

    • This is my first Mira Grant, too, (though I also love Wayward Children), and I’ve heard such good things about it! And I’m a sucker for “monster of the deep” sorts of books/movies. I just started it, and at 10% now, it’s definitely interesting!

    • Right?! It’s gotten mixed reviews, but I love comedy so much, so it’s worth giving it a try, at least. The sequel just came out, so hopefully it’s as good as it sounds. :3

      • I think it appeals to my sense of humour- if you like a bit of comedy in with your fantasy (Pratchett style) and MG then I would recommend PG Bell The Train to Impossible Places which has touches of Pratchett, Hitchhikers GUide to the Galaxy and Dr Who but with a black female protagonist who loves science.

        • I for sure love Pratchett lol. That sounds fabulous. 😮 I’m sold. I’ll be for sure checking that one out! The only thing that really gets me is my library is teensy, so I end up with this long list of books I have to buy or go without reading. =/ I need a rich donor to fund my reading ventures haha.

          • Haha! I’m lucky to have access to a few review copies but my library is an old office (like for one person) at the end of a community centre- BUT our library service is linked all across the county so I can order in a book from anywhere in Oxfordshire which is great but our library services are so squeezed here from cuts!! They do the best they can in the circumstances x

          • Our library does the best they can, too, and they try to stock the most popular books that get a lot of hype, which is nice. We’re supposed to have interlibrary loan, I think, but no one ever suggests it and I’m not sure how to use it, and I’ve heard that the wait is unbearable. xD I’d rather work overtime and buy a copy and donate it to the library when I’m done, so then it goes on their shelves for others. 😛 That’s basically my purpose in life. Read all the books, donate all the books haha.

    • I hope you enjoy them. <3 I apologize to your TBR for subjecting it to more books, but heeey, they've all been well worth the reads so far, so there's that. xD

  3. I tried the first book in Legrand’s series, but just couldn’t get into it. Knowing the second one is primarily romance tells me I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it, either. Happy Reading, Sammie!

    • I totally understand that. I loved Eliana’s story in Furyborn but wasn’t all that enamored with Rielle until the later half, where she started coming into her own. But yes, if you don’t like romance, I would say skip this one. At this point, I’m so invested in the dang story (and Remy and Simon) that I refuse to give up on it lol.

  4. I read Furyborn by Claire Legrand and get what you mean about her material. Furyborn was the same way (to me 🙂 ) Here’s mine

    • No, Kingsbane is much worse in that regard than Furyborn. At least in my opinion. Even though Furyborn was pretty sex/romance heavy. So take what you will from that about Kingsbane. xD

      • Oh no! I had my share after Furyborn and didn’t really think I would pursue the series – now I definitely don’t think I will (I mean, never say never and all, but….) 🙂

        • It’s definitely a shame to me, because I’m torn between a compelling plot and characters I do love (like Simon and Remy) and being so bored with the romance. And Kingsbane is soooo long at 600 pages. It’s really just a preference thing. If I were more into romance, it may not be a problem. xD

  5. Your mini feedback of Soul of the Sword has gotten me so excited for this book! I’m planning to read this one now and I hope to enjoy it as much as you did. I’m hoping this’ll fade the slump away.

    • I hope it helps! Slumps can be such frustrating beasts. The review is up now, if you’re interested. I did definitely enjoy it!

  6. I really enjoyed Into the Drowning Deep. I am also excited to check out Obsidio. I love the format of The Illuminae Files.

    • I’m reading Into the Drowning Deep now, and it’s so good! I do, too. I love the uniqueness of it and how much it adds to the story.

    • I haven’t read any before Shadow of the Fox last year, and apparently she’s written quite a bit, even though I’d never heard of her. So I’m pretty sure you’re not alone in that. 😉
