It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Why is there only 24 hours in a day?
Where can I get more time?
What’s the secret to immortality?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill

If chick lit is your thing, you’ll probably love this. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it, and a lot of it was to do with tropes that I think are very popular in chick lit but which irk me (hence why I tend not to read chick lit). Nina is super relatable, and the tone is light and funny. Ultimately, it was a little too character driven for my tastes and the romance fell a bit flat. For anyone who loves light reads, quirky humor, and bookish characters, I’d highly recommend this one, though.

For his entire life, Charley Sutherland has concealed a magical ability he can’t quite control: he can bring characters from books into the real world. His older brother, Rob — a young lawyer with a normal house, a normal fiancee, and an utterly normal life — hopes that this strange family secret will disappear with disuse, and he will be discharged from his life’s duty of protecting Charley and the real world from each other. But then, literary characters start causing trouble in their city, making threats about destroying the world… and for once, it isn’t Charley’s doing.

There’s someone else who shares his powers. It’s up to Charley and a reluctant Rob to stop them, before these characters tear apart the fabric of reality.

I’ve been really slow at reading lately, because I have so much other things going on right now, but I am utterly in love with this book so far. My favorite thing so far is the dynamics of the brothers, because having siblings is hard, but having a genius younger brother who also happens to be able to read characters out of books is even harder.

I also love the idea of reading characters out of books. When I first read the summary, I immediately thought of Inkheart, but the system here is a bit more well-rounded, a bit more intentional and thought-out. Basically, no two summoned characters are identical, because the reader’s perspective and interpretation is taken into account when reading out a character. So how they think of or view the character affects what comes out, which allows for so many different possibilities.

Shatter the Sky     They Both Die at the End

No changes on this front, unfortunately. I mean, of course I’ve got more books that I’ve added to my TBR, but I doubt I’ll get to them in the next week, especially since I have family coming down to visit. Silly family, monopolizing my time.

Y’all have me concerned about They Both Die at the End now, and I’ve got my feels all prepared to be shattered.

    • Yay! You’ll finish before I do, so I look forward to seeing your thoughts. 😀 I’m hoping it won’t be too hard on the feels after TNDATE. xD And yes, you did! But I’m prepared. *sticks cooking pot on head for armor and picks up a frying pan* I’ve come to do battle for my emotions, and I’m ready for it.

    • I got mine from NetGalley. :3 It’s not archived yet, even though it comes out on the 23rd. So you could always try that? Or wait another week and a half, and you’ll be able to buy it. 😉

  2. I’m hoping to get to Uriah Heep sometime next week and I’M EXCITE. And speaking of Inkheart (which I adore), I really wish they’d do a remake of them as a series, kind of like what they’re doing with His Dark Materials books.

    • I just saw a trailer for the new His Dark Materials, and I was sort of reserved about the idea of a remake, but oh my gosh, so many actors/actresses I like that now I can’t help but be excited about it. I never did watch the Inkheart movie, though.

I hope you enjoy Uriah Heep! I just finished it and have been trying to mull over how to write a review, but oh my gosh!

I’ll be looking forward to your thoughts on They Both Die At The End! Definitely stock up on tissues beforehand just to be safe though. 😉 Happy reading! xx

    • I started it last night, stayed up later than I should, and will probably finish it today. xD I haven’t hit any really hard feels yet, but I can see it start going that way and my gosh.

  4. I’ve avoided reading The Bookish Life of Nina Hill for exactly the reasons you give it only three stars. I don’t think its my thing, either!

    • That’s unfortunate, but at least you know ahead of time. 🙂 I always like to know a book’s not for me before starting it and hitting that big wall of disappointment.
