July Recap || Return of the Fluffies

Posted August 3, 2019 by Sammie in monthly recap / 10 Comments

I come bearing more adorable fluffies, as promised.

Remember those kittens I mentioned in last month’s post? Well, they’re a month old now. Much to my mother-in-law’s dismay, they’re now teetering around the house, mewling like crazy, and being all sorts of adorable. A few more weeks and we inherit the fluffies and hooooo, Lord, I don’t know if we’re ready for five more additions (since the little gray one has a home already, woot woot).

Mama is, in fact, starting to look an awful lot like an exhausted parent of six. xD

So how did my July go? Pretty much every bit as chaotically as I had expected.

Here’s a little rundown:

✦ Hubby and I celebrated our 10th anniversary. It was … a thing. We didn’t actually really do anything. We were supposed to go hiking, but it was about five degrees cooler than the surface of the sun, so we just spent family time.
✦ I bought hubby a Kindle for his birthday. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now it’s super easy for us to share what we’re reading, and long story short, he’s convinced me that I definitely need to read The Stormlight Archive. Also, now there’s no hiding my looming shadow of Kindle books from him, and he didn’t realize just how looming it was. Oops. My bad.
✦ I preordered The Toll by Neal Shusterman finally. And boy am I glad I waited. Someone pointed out that Barnes & Nobles has a special B&N edition that includes commentary from the Shusterman himself! I am 100% all for that.
✦ I’ve been playing Black Desert Online. My productivity dropped 10,000%. Not that I’ve ever been particularly productive, but my gosh this game is addictive.
✦ Kids go back to school in three days. HALLELUJAH! Not that I don’t love my minion, but goodness. She’s hit the phase where every second needs to be filled with sound, and she always wants to be in the same room as me, which means focusing on anything is so difficult while she’s singing in the background. I’m ready for a break again. Not so ready for the 6:30 alarm, though.

This has been such a slow reading month for me, and I’m so disappointed about that. I hit a bit of a slump, and the reading thing really just ground to a halt.

    • It should be illegal for something to be this cute. I’m not sure how we’ll survive having five (FIVE!) more cats in our house, on top of the three we already have, but I can guarantee we’ll be basking in the cuteness while we’ve got it. Thanks. 🙂 Hope you have a lovely August, as well!

  1. Great monthly wrap up! Sounds like you had a pretty good month 🙂 Lol about not being able to hide your looming shadow of Kindle books. It’s just so easy for books to slip slip slip away into the unseen on there 😂 Omg, I wish that I could get my hands on the B&N edition of The Toll! How amazing to get a little extra content from Shusterman. Will definitely have to check if other editions (that deliver internationally lol) will be getting anything like that! Also, I really want to read The Stormlight Archive! It’s been on my wishlist for ages. Hope you enjoy it if you read it 🙂

    • Oh yes, husband dearest thought I had, like, fifty books or something on my Kindle. The adorable dear. I think he died a little inside when he realized I had more like 350. xD Though, to be fair, those aren’t all unread books. That’s just my entire Kindle collection haha.

Yeah, it doesn’t deliver internationally, which is such a bummer. =/ I didn’t even know about the B&N edition until I was told about it, so it’s very possible they could be doing other special editions elsewhere like it. I’ll let you know if I hear something.

Have you read Warbreaker?! Because … not to spoil anything, of course, but hubby had me read a section from the Stormlight Archive where everyone’s favorite homicidal talking sword makes an appearance. Which of course is what convinced me that I absolutely must read it.

  2. Congrats on your 10th anniversary! Those kittens are so cute!! The Stormlight Archive is on my TBR. I look forward to your thoughts on it 🙂 My July was busy but good. I’ve enjoyed a quality summer with puppy and books. Soon I’ll need to go back to school too 😂 #teacherlife

    • Thanks! I honestly have no idea when I’m going to be able to get to it, unfortunately. I’ve been informed that I have to read Mistborn first. In a rather snippy voice, after nagging me for years and years to read it. xD

So glad to hear your summer’s going well! Gosh, I hope you enjoy these last few days/weeks (depending on where you live). You teachers are sooo underrated. I feel confident in saying that, as a parent who has observed many a teacher with the patience of a saint and far too many ungrateful, demanding parents. xD
