Tag Thursday: Spicy Pumpkin Latte Book Tag

Confession: I don’t drink lattes, pumpkin or otherwise.

Phew. It felt good getting that off my chest. To be fair, there are no coffee shops anywhere relatively close to me except for a teensy local thing, and I’ve only had espressos there as a treat a handful of times. Because really, I don’t need espressos. I feel like I’m already highly excitable and hyper.

ANYWAY, pumpkin spice is a thing that a lot of people do, so why not have a tag about it, yeah? Let’s do it!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

✦ A book you didn’t think you’d love ✦

Illuminae

I’m a little ashamed to admit this because wow did I love this SO FREAKING MUCH. But aliens + space = a hard pass for me, thanks. I haven’t traditionally liked those sorts of books, so I kept skipping on this one. DON’T DO THIS, FOLKS. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE AND READ THIS. Right now. No, you know what? Go. Just go and don’t come back until you’ve finished.

Hot Apple Cider

✦ A book that got you a little bit hot under the collar ✦

Nevernight

Other than assassins, I had no idea what to expect going into this, so when I finally started reading it … oh my smut. o.0 I don’t read a lot of smut because I usually find it pretty boring, but I loved this series so much. I actually skipped the later smut scenes in the last two books because … blah. I didn’t like the pairing, and that kind of kills it. But the one in this book? It was kinda hot, guys.

Dragon Divider

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

✦ A book that felt like a warm hug ✦

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

I just really wanted to hug everybody in this, including the parents. Especially the parents? Obviously, they’re killing it. I didn’t think I’d enjoy this quite as much as I did, but oh my gosh, Ari and Dante are marshmallows and I had so many warm fluffy feelings from this.

Dragon Divider

Maple Pecan Latte

✦ A book you enjoyed that was hard to get into ✦

Steel Crow Saga

I actually panicked at first, because this was one of my most anticipated books this year. It was comped as Pokemon x Avatar: The Last Airbender. WHERE DID THINGS GO SO WRONG? I was so confused at the beginning and just couldn’t get into it at first. BUT HAVE NO FEAR. Around 10% or 15%, things really kicked into gear and I was along for the ride through the rest of it, and it was a really good read.

London Fog

✦ A vanilla character ✦

Britt-Marie Was Here

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t get any more vanilla than Britt-Marie. I haven’t read this book, in particular, but I have met Britt-Marie in a different Backman book. Yet, despite her plainness, of course she has so much depth and strength. Because she’s a Backman character. Duh. There was so much about her to love.

Dragon Divider

Hot Buttered Rum

✦ A book that was velvety smooth to read ✦

A Crown of Wishes

Chokshi is such a vivid, poetic writer to start with, and when you add to that high stakes, a competition, and two witty characters with banter … yup. This book just flowed right along and was such a pleasure to read.

Dragon Divider

Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew

✦ A character whose temperament is icy cold ✦

Gideon the Ninth

Icy cold pretty well describes both Gideon and Hallow, and I can’t decide which of them I love more. Since this is Gideon’s book, I suppose I’ll go with her. I know icy cold is supposed to be a bad thing, but … it’s really not, because she makes it so fabulous.

Dragon Divider

Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew

✦ A book that you’re salty about ✦

Stalking Jack the Ripper

Okay, y’all. Everyone told me how good this was. I heard so many positive reviews and was told to read it because I’d love it. Welp. I did not. I hated Audrey with a fervor, and Thomas was only slightly more tolerable. I’m so salty because I wanted to love this book so much and be part of the tribe of fangirls, and I just didn’t. I’ll be over in the corner all alone in my dislike. T_T

Dragon Divider

Honey Bee Latte

✦ A character who is sweet ✦

The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep

Charley Sutherland is just … he’s too sweet, okay? He’s sweet and fluffy and geeky and deserves all the hugs. But he also comes into his own in this book, which is nice. Even though he’s still sweet. I mean … there’s no fairy godmother or genies in this world, so they can only do so much.

Dragon Divider

Gingerbread Latte

✦ A character you’d take home for Christmas ✦

The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind

Teagan Frost may seem like an odd choice, with her mouthiness and sarcasm and inability to fit well into society. Which obviously means she’d get along with my family swimmingly. Also, how fun would Christmas be with her involved? And decorating would be so freaking easy. Not seeing a downside here.

  1. They will be done today. And I’m stealing graphics :*

Because in the middle of everything the boy sent a text and I accidentally dropped a cover I shouldnt have

  2. I’m glad you reminded me about Steel Crow Saga! It’s been on my list but hey, just too many books… I’ll remember if it’s slow starting to just push ahead😁

    • Oof, I know that feeling. Definitely recommend to keep going! At some point, it clicks and starts to make sense, and then it’s so worth it after that point.

  3. Fun list! I haven’t read any of the books on your list (but Illuminae is on the TBR) but I can see totally see from your explanations how everyone fits the tag.

I’m with you on lattes — the coffee version, anyway. I do enjoy chai (tea) lattes. Yum.

    • Mmmm I want a chai latte now. I used to get really good ones at a local shop, but that was when I was younger, and I haven’t found a good place around here. T_T

Can’t wait for you to pick up Illuminae to see what you think. 😛

      • I have gotten used to the Starbucks chai lattes, so that’s my go-to. I’ve had others at small local shops that were yummier, but they were never my own local shop so they’re not close enough to go to.

I’m looking forward to trying Illuminae too!

    • Right?! I need the sequel already, and the author only teased it, like, forever ago. =/ Thanks for making the tag! It was super fun. 🙂
