First Line Friday 56 || Heists and Found Family

It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.

“First Line Fridays” is by Hoarding Books and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.

This week’s First Line Friday 56 is dedicated to Susan @ Novel Lives, who I know will recognize this book immediately. xD Many of you might, as well, because wow am I ever behind in reading popular books.

“Thirty million kruge,” Kaz said.
“We said twenty!” sputtered Van Eck.
You said twenty. It’s clear you’re desperate.” Kaz glanced back in the direction of the boathouse, where a room full of men simply waited to die. “And now I see why.”

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Reasons to Read

✿ Found family is the best, because you do, in fact, get to choose who you’re related to.
✿ Magic put to good use, clearly, through … heists and gangs?
✿ Anti-heroes, which are the best kind of heroes.
✿ Characters full of both wit and sarcasm.
✿ Unwilling characters forced to work together. Oh, the horror!

  1. Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from A Match for Emma by Pepper Basham.
Here I’ll share with you the first line from chapter 5 —
“There was something about front porch swings.”

I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of bookish delights!

    • Very insightful, and I wholeheartedly agree. There certainly *is* something about porch swings (although, we have no swing and just Adirondack chairs on our porch lol).

    • I’m so happy to hear that! I’m still reading it, but I’m really enjoying it (and definitely in yup with Kaz, as predicted, so there’s that haha).

  2. Happy Friday! 😀

Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Misleading Miss Verity by Carolyn Miller: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/11/07/first-line-friday-109/. I’m currently reading Once Upon a Christmas, a novella collection. I’ll share a line from there:

“Stretching her arm, Li slammed her hand on her phone and tapped to snooze the alarm.”

Hope you have a great weekend filled with awesome reading time. 🙂❤📖

I haven’t read this book yet. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, and I like the quotes.

Happy Weekend! My first line is from “The Strength of Their Love” by Kimberly Rae Jordan:

“Forrest Williams slammed his hand on the nightstand, trying to find his phone so he could shut off the racket the alarm was making.”

  5. Paula Shreckhise

My first line is from The Pursuit of Home by Kristi Hunter

    Marlborough, England 1816
Sometimes, despite time, distance, and a significant amount of ignoring it, the past never quite went away.
