It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.
“First Line Fridays” is by Hoarding Books and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.
This week’s First Line Friday 56 is dedicated to Susan @ Novel Lives, who I know will recognize this book immediately. xD Many of you might, as well, because wow am I ever behind in reading popular books.
First Lines
56% Snippet
“We said twenty!” sputtered Van Eck.
“You said twenty. It’s clear you’re desperate.” Kaz glanced back in the direction of the boathouse, where a room full of men simply waited to die. “And now I see why.”
Book Reveal
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone. . . .
A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes
Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
Reasons to Read
✿ Found family is the best, because you do, in fact, get to choose who you’re related to.
✿ Magic put to good use, clearly, through … heists and gangs?
✿ Anti-heroes, which are the best kind of heroes.
✿ Characters full of both wit and sarcasm.
✿ Unwilling characters forced to work together. Oh, the horror!
Now I really am the last person to read Six of Crows! 😁
Whaaaat? No, surely not. Maybe one of the last, out of a group of you slow adopters. 😛 Honestly, I wouldn’t be reading it yet if a friend (and fellow blogger, so you know she means business) of mine hadn’t bought it and then demanded I read it. But she wasn’t wrong, and you will probably love Kaz as much as I do, just an FYI. xD
(Nope. I haven’t read it either.)
See? You two should totally start a club. :3 You can make little pins and everything. It’ll be fun!
😀
Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from A Match for Emma by Pepper Basham.
Here I’ll share with you the first line from chapter 5 —
“There was something about front porch swings.”
I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of bookish delights!
Very insightful, and I wholeheartedly agree. There certainly *is* something about porch swings (although, we have no swing and just Adirondack chairs on our porch lol).
Great snippets!
Thanks!
I loved this book so much! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Happy reading! 🙂
I’m so happy to hear that! I’m still reading it, but I’m really enjoying it (and definitely in yup with Kaz, as predicted, so there’s that haha).
Happy Friday! 😀
Over on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Misleading Miss Verity by Carolyn Miller: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/11/07/first-line-friday-109/. I’m currently reading Once Upon a Christmas, a novella collection. I’ll share a line from there:
“Stretching her arm, Li slammed her hand on her phone and tapped to snooze the alarm.”
Hope you have a great weekend filled with awesome reading time. 🙂❤📖
That action is way too relatable. xD Thanks for sharing!
This is one on my wishlist! 🙂 Happy weekend!
I hope you get it! It’s really good so far. 🙂
I haven’t read this book yet. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, and I like the quotes.
I haven’t finished it yet, but everyone seems to love it, and I’m really enjoying it so far. :3
Happy Weekend! My first line is from “The Strength of Their Love” by Kimberly Rae Jordan:
“Forrest Williams slammed his hand on the nightstand, trying to find his phone so he could shut off the racket the alarm was making.”
Sooo relatable. xD I do that every morning, too, it seems. Thanks for sharing!
My first line is from The Pursuit of Home by Kristi Hunter
Marlborough, England 1816
Sometimes, despite time, distance, and a significant amount of ignoring it, the past never quite went away.
Oooh, love that first line! Sounds a bit ominous, but also very true.
Great choice.
Today I’m sharing the first line from Forged Through Fire: A Reconstructive Surgeon’s Story of Survival, Faith, and Healing by Mark D. McDonough, MD: “I woke perspiring as an intense wall of heat rolled across the room.”

Oh, sounds interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I loved this! Happy reading!
