2020 ARCs I Hope Santa Sends Me

Posted December 24, 2019 by Sammie in arc, book list, chat with me, top ten tuesdays / 27 Comments

I’ve been a mostly good* girl this year, so I obviously deserve something special under the tree, right?

* Assuming you don’t count all that other stuff, but pffft, who does?

So, no coal in my stocking this year. Instead, I want to look forward to all the lovely books coming in 2020 whose ARCs it would probably take a little of Santa’s magic and ingenuity in order to produce, and that’s probably the only chance I have of getting them. But that doesn’t make me want them any less, darn it.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is books I hope Santa brings me, but I already did that here and I even gave a peek under my own tree with some books I’m giving for Christmas.

So here we are. I got to thinking of all the lovely books coming out next year, and aside from endless time and immortality, what else would I like from Santa? Well, a few shiny new ARCs, of course!

Helloooo Harry Potter fans out there. Remember the magic and whimsy you felt when you first cracked that book open and stumbled onto Privet Drive? Well, I’d now like to introduce you to Nevermoor. Filled with magic and darkness and whimsy and dragons, it’s pretty much the most perfect place since Hogwarts. I can’t wait to revisit it.

You mean I can have a story about La Llorona and it’s an adventure instead of horror? I’m in! I’ve really been digging these Rick Riordan presents, and thank goodness for all the diversity of the legends! I’ve also been a little intrigued by La Llorona since I was young, so this book is obviously tailor-made for me. Thanks, I love it.

I read and loved The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep when I read it last year, and I was super excited to realize the author was releasing another book. *grabby hands* Clearly, I have to read this. Duh. Not just because of the author, either. Have you read that summary?! Also, Robespierre is a necromancer, which is a new one for me, but hey, I’m all for this.

Another author I read last year. Book one was everything I have ever asked for. Literally. Adult super heroes, complete with nemesis and secret identities? Check. Superpowers I’d sacrifice my neighbors for? Also check. Snarky reluctant heroine? Check check check. I’ve been looking forward to this book from the moment I finished the first one.

I mean … do I really need to say anything? Helloooo Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, my old friends. I will read anything and everything they write together since I finished The Illuminae Files.

The Deck of Omens

Release: April 21, 2020 || Goodreads

I follow the author of this because I apparently hate myself. She’s posted so many little teasers about this book that I’m likely to explode before it’s actually released. I’m so ready to hop back into this super eerie world.

Elysium Girls

Disney will never give me ARCs, but a girl can dream, right? I mean, that’s sort of the point of this post. LOOK AT THAT FREAKING COVER. It’s gorgeous and perfect. Give me a Western with witch gangs and demons and bets between Heaven and Hell. Yes, yes, yes, yes! I don’t even know how the heck I’m going to wait until April at this point.

Night of the Dragon

Release: April 2, 2020 || Goodreads

I’ve read the first two books, and they were great. But after the ending of the second one? This book can’t release fast enough. I need me some more Haikomono, the adorable murderous demon he is. I’ll be sad to see the trilogy end, like I always am when it comes to it, but I’m ready to find out what happens next, please and thank you.

Wicked As You Wish

Release: March 3, 2020 || Goodreads

I’ve heard such much good stuff about Rin Chupeco, and I somehow still haven’t read any of her books? Despite owning at least half of them. Don’t ask. I clearly have major problems. But also? This sounds like dystopia with a Filina heroine and lots of action and intrigue. Also, spelltech. I’m so here for some spelltech.

Just … yes. More books about scribes, writers, librarians, and all versions of nerdy people as heroes, please. I will love and cherish and read them all.

What are some ARCs you hope Santa brings you for 2020?

  1. So many ARCs I’m pining for as well! And yeah, I just got declined on NetGalley for Elysium Girls. Hey, at least Disney is consistent!

  2. Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air sounds like such a fun read. I hope you’ll get to read it soon (and maybe review it for your blog, too? But no pressure there. 🙂 )

    My TTT.

    • *If* I’m somehow blessed with an ARC, I will FOR SURE be reviewing it on my blog. xD *crosses fingers* Probably, even if I have to buy a copy, I’ll still review it. Most likely. Wow am I ever behind on reviews right now, since you mention it. xD

    • Thank you so much. <3 Definitely go read Nevermoor. Now. Start with book one and don't quit until the words run out on the second book and you lift your head and blink in confusion as you wonder where you are. xD Everyone kept recommending Nevermoor, and I took soooo long in picking it up (because I'm obviously silly), but I love the series.

    • Thaaaanks! Me, too. So funny, though. Shortly after I posted this, I got rejected for one of them. xD Ah well. Such is the life of a book blogger. I had a good laugh about the timing, though.

  3. I think I want to read all the books on your list, they all sound so good and they appeal to me although I still kind of don’t like the first book of Nevermoor (I forgot what this series is called) so I’ll probably not read book 2 but that could change.

    Have a lovely holiday.

    • Aww that’s a shame. I’m so in love with Nevermoor, but alas, it can’t be for everyone. xD I hope you do get to read some of the other ones, though! 2020 is already shaping up to be yet another year filled with some amazing books.

  4. Happy holidays! I hope you get some of these ARCs! I’m really curious about spelltech now, so I’ll be on the lookout for Wicked As You Wish. Also, I need to start the Julie Kagawa books. They just keep getting prettier covers!

    • It sounds really interesting, doesn’t it?! The Julie Kagawa books really do have gorgeous covers. The stories are good, too, luckily. xD Or I think so, anyway.

    • I just can’t waiiiit. I have no idea what’s going to happen, and I love having no expectations for it. I’m just here for more Haikamono. <3

  5. Holy wow, what a list Sammie 😍 I haven’t heard of almost all of these books before but I’m sooo excited for Aurora Burning! I’m keen to check out some of these others as well 💞 Great list!

    • You’re welcome. Can never have too many books. xD I mean, unless they’re crushing you, I guess … and then maybe … but that’s a pretty unlikely scenario.

    • What is this “requesting ban” you speak of. It sounds like torture. 😮 I’m always impressed by people who can limit their requesting. I’m just not that strong. xD

  6. Mir

    I cannot wait for The Deck of Omens. I just requested it on Edelweiss though I know I won’t get it. Also thank you just added A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians. This sounds so interesting.

    • Me toooo. Even though, let’s be honest, I’m obviously going to get rejected (I’ve got a streak of rejections at EW now, so I’m sort of curious how long it can get because why not xD). But it’s worth the rejection for even a glimmer of hope at an ARC of Deck of Omens lol.

      Yeeees, I hope you enjoy it! Her first book, The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep, was also really good (which is why I’ve been on the lookout for this one).
