It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.
This week, I’ve decided to try something a little different, because, you see, I want to feature my first graphic novel.
Partly because I’ve just finished binge-reading what bit of the series is released so far and loved it so much and partly because the illustrations are too gorgeous not to share. So we’ll see how this goes!

Some More Eye Candy
Book Reveal
In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: She wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Resigned to her un-magical life, Coco is about to give up on her dream to become a witch…until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, traveling magician. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody “knows” might not be the truth, and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem…
Reasons to Read
✿ Breathtaking illustrations.
✿ Fun, whimsical plot line.
✿ But also with a dark side!
✿ Fantastical creatures and spells.
✿ All the magic you can imagine and then some.
✿ Swoonworthy wizards.
✿ The wholesome goodness of little girls saving people.
This looks amazing! Thank you for the recommendation, it’s going on my teeming TBR 😊
Your poor TBR. xD I hope you enjoy it when you’re able to read it, though!
Thank you! Hopefully I’ll get to it soon 😅
This looks like fun😁 I wish I read more graphic novels, but I tend to get frustrated with the format for some reason. I think it’s one of those muscles you have to stretch to be comfortable with it, at least for me.
I think graphic novels are definitely something you have to get used to over time. I have a bad habit of flipping through just for the story and forget to look at the pictures, but the pictures are 95% of the story. xD I’ve had to train myself to go slower and appreciate the art, which is … a process.
I’ve never read a graphic novel, but you are so right about those illustrations, and they do add to the excitement and intensity of the story. Thanks for sharing!
You should give it a try some time, when you find just the right one. 🙂 It’s such a different reading experience!
Like learning to do magic, learning how to process a graphic novel can be daunting. This one looks amazing, amazing, amazing. Thank you for sharing it.
It’s definitely something that takes some getting used to, but I personally think it’s worth it! I love the different ways you can experience a book. 🙂
That’s a creative way to share this cool book! Thanks for sharing it on Book Beginnings!
Thanks! I’m glad it worked out, since I didn’t know if it would. xD
What a fun post today! I love graphic novels. I get a lot of my students into reading via graphic novels!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I am sharing the first few lines from The Blizzard Bride by Susie Dietze: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/01/10/first-line-fridays-118/. I’m still working my way through this fun novel, so I will share another line or two from The Blizzard Bride.
“‘Forgive, forget, forgive, forget.’ The words formed a rhythmic refrain in Abby’s head, in time to the beat played by the group of fiddles and banjos Saturday evening at Mayor Carpenter’s birthday party.”
I hope you have an excellent weekend filled with relaxing reading time. 🙂❤️📚
Graphic novels are great for kids who struggle getting into reading! My daughter is a reluctant reader and loves them, too.
Such beautiful illustrations! Its been awhile since I last lost myself in a graphic novel, but I do enjoy them. From the excerpts you shared and your comments about it, this sounds like one I have to try. Have a great weekend!
I hope you enjoy it! I flew through what was out a little *too* quickly, and it was over before I even realized, so I can say this one definitely sucked me in!
Ooh, this looks like such a fun read! I love those illustrations. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have an awesome weekend! 🙂
Thanks. Have a good weekend, too!
Such lovely illustrations. That is what I love when reading manga or graphic novels. My book: On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous
Me, too. I love gorgeous worlds that I can fall into!
Looks like a fantastic graphic read!! Happy weekend!
I love the artwork for this one! I will have to keep an eye out for it. Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
I hope you get the chance to read it. 🙂 Have a good weekend.
Yesssss I love this. I love that you dedicated a whole post to this manga. I will forever be obsessed with it and I hope it goes on forever 😍
I wish I could dedicate aaaall the posts to this. <3 I'm more than a little in love with Qifrey, even if he's clearly into some shady stuff. Even better. ;)
Sounds like a fun read. I started to get into manga in 2019 and plan to read more during 2020.
You should definitely add this one to your list! And if you come across any good ones, I always love recommendations. 😉
OK I’M SOLD! I haven’t read manga in a really long time but I now want to pick this up ASAP! It looks so good 😃 Also, I totally love that you managed to do this weekly meme with a manga! Never thought of doing that 🙂 Lol
I honestly did know if it would work, but I’m glad it did! Hopefully, I’ll have more manga to share in the future and maybe for Friday posts. Who knows? 😉
But definitely do it. You need to read this one!
Oh, that is lovely! I’ll have to pick this one up for sure.
I hope you do, and I hope you enjoy it! I didn’t think I’d like it nearly as much as I did.
