The best part of being a member of the bookish community: reading challenges!
Because it’s not like we have enough on our plates, of course, with reading all the books and posting reviews and raving about all our favorite characters. Every now and then, we realize our TBR judging has reached critical capacity, and we either have to do something about it or risk an uprising. Well, this is me doing something about it. It might be too late. There might still be an uprising. Be vigilent.
I’ll actually be creating separate pages for each of these challenges where I’ll update my progress, which will be linked in the navigation at the top of the page under Reading Challenges and also in this post.
This post is just to let everyone know about these awesome challenges (because y’all should obviously join) and to officially join. Even though I’ve totally already joined. You know what I mean.
#ARCApocalypse
Hosted By: Destiny @ Howling Libraries
Goal: Catch up on all outstanding ARCs by the end of 2020.
Why I’m Signing Up: Unfortunately, life circumstances hit in 2018 into early 2019 that really delayed my blogging. My grandmother became sick and passed away, I had my second missed miscarriage, found out I’m basically probably never going to have more children, and my grandfather was diagnosed with dementia. It was a lot all at once, and late 2018 into early 2019 I spent basically in severe depression.
Phew, now that all the negative stuff is out of the way, I want to stress that I’m doing great. I’m in a good place mentally, and the blog’s running well. I feel really bad that all these ARCs are outstanding, so I’m taking charge and getting them read and reviewed this year!
Upcoming ARCs for 2020: 32 books
Outstanding ARCs from 2019: 12 books
Outstanding ARCs from 2018: 4 books

Pondathon
Hosted By: CW @ The Quiet Pond
Goal: Read books and participate in battle, for the glory of your team.
Why I’m Signing Up: Did you not just read the battle and glory thing?! This one is a challenge with a storyline and quests. How frigging cool is that?! Also, the characters are too cute.
Meet my character, Frenick.
I highly recommend reading the Prologue, and if you want to join, Team Xiaolong is where it’s at. I mean, you can join the other teams, as long as you’re fine with not being the coolest. π
Visit my challenge page for more details here.
These both sound like fun. I haven’t really committed to any challenges yet, and I’m not sure I will. But I’ll be watching your progress!
I sat by and watched everyone else do challenges last year, but i didn’t feel like it was a good time to join. But this year, I really wanted to. Especially Pondathon, because it sounds so unique! π
Sounds like fun, I hope you enjoy! The quest one especially sounds like a lot of fun. I’d consider joining you if I didn’t want to restrict my reading challenges to shorter (ie monthly) ones this year.
This one only runs for I think three months. So it’s a nice in-between. π Totally not trying to pressure you into it haha. But just letting you know that it’s not a year-long thing. And so far, there seems to be pretty low pressure. Like, if you read one book, great! If you read ten, also great!
Oh, that’s good to know! I’ll have to go look into it in more detail, then… π It does look like a more unique reading challenge than most I’ve seen.
Yeah, okay… so I think I’ll sign up for this too. It looks like it runs for all of February and one week each in January and March. So it’s effectively a month-long readathon. π
Yaaaaaay! If you’re on Discord, there’s a Discord, as well, which has been nice to meet others who are participating so far. :3
I am technically on Discord, but I haven’t used it much at all lately. It take more time than I usually feel like giving it. But I might swing by for the period of time the readathon is going!
I usually check it maybe once a day or every other day, just to see if there’s anything important to catch up on, unless I’m having a conversation with someone. It’s a convenient way to chat with multiple people, though, so I enjoy it.
Good luck with these challenges this year, Sammie π
Thank you! I’ll probably need it for the ARC Apocalypse, for sure. xD
Still sending you hugs for all that negativity from 2018/2019. Hugs hugs hugs.
And hello teammate at the Pondathon π
Thank youuu. I have to tell you, though, things have been pretty great since mid-2019, mostly. :3 So it’s looking up again, at least!
Yaaaaay teammate! I keep forgetting to submit my page counts LOL. I’m so bad at that.
Hey! Are you doing the Pondathon side quests? The current one (#3) requires a Pondathon buddy, and though I could probably find one on the Discord I figured I’d check with you first since your’e the reason I joined in the first place. π
I aaam. The next side quest is up? I didn’t even see it yet. I’m behind in everything right now. xD Muahaha I’m honored. <3 And yeees. I would love to do a buddy read. What's the easiest way for you to chat so we can figure out something to read?
Twitter DMs would work I think? And if I read the side quest 3 thing right, we don’t have to do a buddy read for this one, just have a total page count of 100 pages. <3
Ah, I just popped by and read the quest, and yup, we can read whatever. Which is nice, because I’ll probably read 100-ish pages tonight alone if I get to finish Deathless Divide like I want. xD Those are my plans for tonight.
Yeah, this one is easy (at least for us). I’ve already read 46 pages to count for this, so I figured it would be a no-brainer. π Have fun with Deathless Divide!
