It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.

“I didn’t do it, it just happened. Anyway, you must admit it’s a better shape for him,” said Esk evenly.
Book Reveal
They say that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it is not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.
The last thing the wizard Drum Billet did, before Death laid a bony hand on his shoulder, was to pass on his staff of power to the eighth son of an eighth son. Unfortunately for his colleagues in the chauvinistic (not to say misogynistic) world of magic, he failed to check that the baby in question was a son. Everybody knows that there’s no such thing as a female wizard. But now it’s gone and happened, there’s nothing much anyone can do about it. Let the battle of the sexes begin…

✿ Witches!
✿ An entire world to fall in love with and never leave.
✿ You’ll laugh so hard, you’ll cry.
✿ Women doing things they’re “not supposed to”
✿ And, you know, totally owning at it, like you do.
✿ Battle of the sexes!
✿ Eighth son of the eighth son trope … subverted! By … a daughter!
Ooohhh…this sounds good! I do love witches ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve loved all of Pratchett’s books I’ve read so far, so I’m sure this won’t be an exception. :3
The snippet is hilarious! Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
I admit, I do so love Terry Pratchett’s humor!
This sounds like fun, and so funny! I haven’t read much Pratchett, maybe I’ll try this someday😁
I’ve only read a few of his books so far, too, but I buy them whenever I see them around. This year, I really want to try to read at least one a month (and some of them are pretty short, like this is around, I think, 230-ish pages). I LOVE his humor, though!
It’s always so interesting when a beginning of the book tells you “this is a story about…” like it’s talking directly to you. I really want to read something by Terry Pratchett this year!
That seems to be Pratchett’s overall style, and I absolutely love it, especially the way he uses it. I so recommend reading … pretty much anything by Pratchett this year? I started with Mort, because I love Death, and the Death trilogy is still one of my favorites. I might just reread it this year. xD
That 56 is amazing and now I want to read this one. Great choice!
I hope you do! I’ve enjoyed all the Pratchett books I’ve read so far. They’re lots of fun.
I knew I recognized that snippet! It’s been long enough since I read it, though, that I didn’t remember which book it was from. Love the Discworld witches, though. Happy reading!
Sometimes recognizing the snippets is the best. 😉 I’m looking forward to meeting them, since it seems like a lot of people enjoy them. Death will still probably always be my favorite, though.
Yeah, the Witches are fun but Death will always be my favorite, too. 😉
Those snippets are so great! I’m hooked! Terry Pratchett is an author I really need to read one of these days. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have an awesome weekend! 🙂
I so highly recommend that you do! I haven’t read as many of his books as I’d like, but I do love his work. I recommend the Death Trilogy (it starts with Mort). I loved it.
Very intriguing!
I need to read more books by this author. I like the quotes, and I’m going to add this one to my TBR List.
I hope you enjoy it! I highly recommend the Death Trilogy (it starts with Mort) by Pratchett. I absolutely loved it.
I need to read more from this author!!! Great snippets! Happy weekend!
Same! There are so many books, and I feel so behind already. xD
I’ve never read much Prachett; I should give his books another try. Happy Reading!
You really should! They’re not for everyone, but I love them so!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Waltz in the Wilderness by Kathleen Denly: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/01/31/first-line-friday-121/. I am just getting into the novel, so I will share the first line from chapter 2 here.
“Daniel thanked the postman and stepped away from the window. Tapping the single envelope against his palm, he strode past the long line of men who, like him, had been waiting hours for news from home.”
Hope you have an excellent weekend!
Oh noo. The sentence started off fine, but now I have feels. xD
I love Terry Pratchett. I want to read the whole series Discworld. My quotes from MUSE OF NIGHTMARES
I do, too, but it’s going to take … time? Also getting my hands on all of them. It seems like a pretty worthy venture, though.
I do like witches, and I would have liked turning my brothers into pigs when they were younger, lol. This looks like a fun book.
Ummm … yes! I’d still turn my brothers into pigs now, just for laughs. And they’re “adults” now, so they’d have to forgive me, because that’s what adults do. 😉 Muahaha.
Great post. What a fun idea. I love the click to reveal! How do you do that?
Thanks! I use a plug-in called Collapse-O-Matic. Super easy. 🙂
