It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.

He wouldn’t end up that way. He couldn’t. He hadn’t battled his way back from the depths of the Cloudmere to live out the rest of his life as a captive. Frantically, he racked his brain to come up with an escape plan, resisting the urge to lunge for the crystal casing and jump overboard.
Book Reveal
Beware! A shadow will cover you, larger than that cast by any other dragon of this world. Black as the lightless chasm from whence it was born at the beginning of time.
In the coastal city Skargakar, residents make a living from hunting dragons and use them for everything from clothing to food, while airborne ships hunt them in the white expanse of a cloud sea, the Cloudmere.
Lian does his part carving the kyrillian crystals that power the ships through the Cloudmere, but when he makes an enemy of a dangerous man, Lian ships out on the next vessel available as a drachenjager, or dragon hunter.
He chooses the wrong ship. A fanatic captain, hunts more than just any dragon. His goal is the Firstborn Gargantuan—and Adaron is prepared to sacrifice everything for revenge.
Reasons to Read
✿ DRAGONS. Isn’t that always enough?
✿ Flying ships! And dragon riders.
✿ Unique races, including a winged one.
✿ Lots of suspense and tension.
✿ A new twist on an old classic … with dragons.
✿ Plenty of swoonworthy characters to fall in love with.
✿ A large, expansive world to fall into and explore.
What a fascinating book! The cover is creepy, though…lol. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “DEAD TO HER”
It is, but it’s also fabulous, and that pretty much sums up the book … creepy and fabulous. xD And dragons.
Is this Moby Dick but with dragons? Cause that sounds amazing!
IT IS! And it was fabulous. And also terrifying. Because I’m sorry, but it’s hard to really be afraid of what a whale’s going to do to a crew. But a freaking giant fire-breathing dragon?! YEEES. That thing does damage.
The idea of this book sounds neat, but that cover freaks me out every time. Not because it’s particularly creepy, but because I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be a dragon and it doesn’t look at all like a dragon to me.

Dragons really is enough to get me curious. 😊 This sounds like a great read. I hope you love it. Have a great weekend!
I just finished it and OMG. I wasn’t ready to leave the world. T_T I want about three more books here, please. Definitely loved this one!
Lol really? I loved the cover from the first time I saw it, but I guess I just thought it was supposed to be an ancient dragon. I showed it to hubby, and he said it looked like a giant turtle LOL. So I guess you’ve got a point.
You do a nice job selling your books to the readers of your blog. Are you a librarian that also “sells” book ideas to readers? My Friday Quotes
Is it that obvious? xD Guilty as charged. Thank you, though! I do enjoy recommending books to patrons, and I’ve got a decent success rate. I mean, you can’t win them all, I suppose, but I’ve had people go out of their way to come in just to tell me how much they loved a book I put in their hands, and that’s just the best feeling to me!
I had a suspicion about the book because I knew you were reading it. It sounds more intriguing the more you share. Glad you are enjoying it.
Pffft you cheated and used logic. 😉 I thought about using a different book, maybe one of my upcoming reads, but I just was loving this one so much that I had to go with it in the end lol.
Black as my heart LOL I love that opening!!! Happy weekend!

That was my first thought when I read it, too! And it was true. xD My little black heart loved it.
Sounds like a fun plot. I hope you enjoy it.
Absolutely loved it! Stayed up too late last night reading it haha.
Ooh! This sounds pretty good. Thanks for sharing!
Lauren @ Always Me
I just finished it way too early this morning (because I had to know what happened). It was fantastic!
Now that’s a fun book reveal! Happy Friday! On my blog I’m sharing the first line from a Mary Connealy book, Woman of Sunlight. Here’s the next line:
“Her face was peppered with half-healed blisters left from having chicken pox, but she resisted the urge to slap her hands over her scabby cheeks.”
Thank you! Oooh, what imagery! I’m so glad I never had chicken pox. xD Doesn’t sound like a particularly fun time.
Happy Saturday! 😊
Yesterday I shared the first few lines from Blind Dates, Bridesmaids, and Other Disasters by Aspen Hadley. I’m just starting chapter 10, so I’ll share a line from there.
“Sunday night I was lounging in the comfy over-stuffed chair in the corner of my room, flipping through an old copy of Pride and Prejudice that I’d read a few times.”
Hope you have a great weekend filled with awesome reading time. ❤📖
That sounds like the absolute best way to spend a Sunday night. I love it!
Flying ships, a cloud sea, and dragons? Yes, please! This sounds awesome! Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
It was a fabulous read! I so recommend it. And not just because there’s dragons. 😉
I’m not one for dragon books, but I did watch Game of Thrones on tv, so maybe I would like to read about dragons now and again. Thanks for sharing your post on Book Beginnings!
I think most dragon books don’t tend to be like Game of Thrones. xD Though, that book/show just wasn’t my cup of tea. I definitely recommend getting a healthy dose of dragons, in some form, though. 😀
Dragons! Hard to go wrong with dragons. I hope you enjoy it.

I whole-heartedly agree!
It has been a long time since I have read a dragon book! The way you formatted this post really made me curious to keep reading and learn more. It sounds like a fantastic story. Enjoy! 🙂
