It’s time to play “guess that book” and also watch our TBRs weep.
Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City Reader and is all about the first line of a current/upcoming read. Friday 56 is a meme hosted by Freda’s Voice, where you turn to page 56 (or 56%) in what you’re reading a find a snippet that jumps out at you.
First Lines
Today I died.
Sincerely,
Ben
If I kept a diary, that would’ve been my entry for the day. Super dark, right?
56% Snippet
“I didn’t say it was going to be easy,” Kepler said. “In fact, if I remember correctly, I said it was going to be excruciatingly difficult.”
“You also said I wouldn’t stand out at all.”
Kepler sighed. “Yes, but you’ll have that when vomiting on half the student body.”
Book Reveal
Ben Braver is an ordinary kid. All he wants to do is finish his summer watching awesome TV shows and eating his favorite candy. But when some kid screams for help, Ben, like his favorite comic book heroes, tries to save the day. Let’s just say it ends badly. But it does lead him to a secret school where kids with super abilities learn to control their powers. Ben’s never had any powers—and never thought he could be special. So when he’s offered a spot at the school, Ben realizes this is his chance to become the superhero he’s always dreamed of. Packed with black-and-white art and comic strips throughout.
Reasons to Read
✿ Half book, half graphic novel.
✿ Lots of hilarious comic strip-y scenes to further the story.
✿ Super funny humor that’ll have you in stitches.
✿ Superheroes and supervillains!
✿ But not all powers are made equal.
✿ Packed full of action and adventure.
✿ Full cast of fun characters.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a book that’s half comic book, half regular book. Sounds fun😁

There are some, but they tend to be heavier on the comic part and less on the book part (like Captain Underpants), so this is a nice flip!
The snippets made me smile. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “THE MISSING SISTER”

Glad you enjoyed the snippets!
I’ve read a book or two that mixed formats and I think this one sounds fun. That was the way Atomic Frenchie (which I highly recommend) was formatted. Hope you continue to love this one!
I haven’t heard of that, but I’ll have to look it up! I finished the series, and I just loved it so much. Handed all my books to my daughter, and she’s thrilled to start them soon, so double win there. xD
Would it appeal to fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid?

YES! For sure. Would highly recommend it for kids who love Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dog Man, Captain Underpants, Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja, and similar books. Similar sort of humorous writing (though, I personally think the humor in CU is a little *too* juvenile for me, personally, but I didn’t have that problem with this series).
Yes, I’d agree that vomiting on half the study body would make you stand out. Gross. LADY COP MAKES TROUBLE

Everyone involved agreed that it was, indeed, gross. xD
Sounds like a fun one!! Happy weekend!

Definitely fun, which is a nice change from stabby!
Sounds cute and fun. Hope you enjoy it.
The whole series was great. 🙂 Nice change of pace.
Happy Friday! 🙂
Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Promised by Leah Garriott: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/03/06/first-line-friday-126/. It’s such a good book. I’m currently reading When He Found Me by Victoria Bylin so I’ll share a line from there.
“Getting the apartment ready in twenty four hours took all the energy MJ could muster.”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! ❤📖
On a side note, I read your glorious reviews for the Ben Braver books. I bought book 1 for my daughter. We’ll see how she likes it. You write the best reviews!

Thank you so much! I hope your daughter loves it. Mine’s only just started it, and she’s a slow reader, but she’s enjoying it so far.
Your snippet is so relatable. xD I’m so glad I don’t have to get anywhere “ready” anymore. I just don’t care anymore LOL. It’s so freeing.
