Authors to Follow on Twitter (Ft. Hilarity and Shenanigans)

Posted March 10, 2020 by Sammie in chat with me, top ten tuesdays / 29 Comments

We all know that reading, in reality, is defined by spending approximately 96.29% of your time browsing Twitter and avoiding doing The Thing.

But can you blame us, really? Twitter is where all the cool people hang out. It’s the source of endless new information about awesome new books out there. It’s full of sarcasm and snark and memes and all the things required for a healthy emotional diet.

Perhaps the best part about Twitter now is the opportunity to follow your favorite authors.

Because a lot of authors have Twitter now, and a lot of them also have hella fun personalities. So the two combine like Voltron to form … a totally followable and likeable Twitter feed. Okay, it’s not as amazing as Voltron, but you know, we do what we can.

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is authors with a fun social media presence.

I chose to focus specifically on Twitter, because I tend to spend most of my time there. You know, especially when I’m supposed to be doing something else, as I’ve said. Not to brag or anything, but I’m sort of a professional.

    • I can’t take credit for it, since it was the weekly prompt, but I did love the idea! I always love shouting out people I enjoy following. :3

    • I think everyone and their mother already follow Sam Sykes, but he deserves it. xD Constantly cracks me up.

Aww, thank you. :3 I enjoy your tweets, as well! Always fun.

  1. One thing I’ve discovered is even though I love to read, I’m visual. (Which is also why I don’t do as well with audiobooks, I guess.) So Instagram is the place for me. Also, I can be very argumentative when presented with an issue I feel strongly about… I could easily fall into the Twitter/Facebook rabbit hole and never return. 😉 I feel like for my sanity, I should just look at pretty pictures. Ha! I do jump on Twitter to check out Maggie Stiefvater’s account sometimes. Although, she’s pretty good about sharing on Instagram, too. She’s snarky and hilarious, as well!

    • I totally understand that! I’m just the opposite. While I can recognize and appreciate visually beautiful things (like pictures), my brain just … doesn’t work that way? It’s such a struggle for me. I’m much more word-oriented. :3 I’ll have to check out Maggie Stiefvater’s account! Thanks.

    • I totally agree! Don’t get me wrong, I love self-promotion and think you should do it … but if it’s the *only* thing going on on your feed, that’s not very interesting. Yeah, I get it, buy your book. Oh, I haven’t seen his feed. Will have to look him up! Thanks for the recommendation.

  2. Kristoff! Kristoff! Kristoff *chanting 4ever* I love Kristoff so much! He’s the only author I follow on all the platforms because he’s just so awesome. I love how much he interacts and responds to fans! It’s so so nice to see 🙂 I also love Drews and Haig! I think those two might be my most re-tweeted authors lol their posts are just so relatable but also encouraging 😍 Great list, Sammie!

    • That’s true, and he’s also just so funny and sarcastic. And handsome. Honestly, whatever reason you go into following him, he’s got it all. xD

  3. I don’t have Twitter. I actually don’t miss it and I don’t need it but this blog post kinda makes me regret it at least a little. 🙂

    • I think you’re probably better off than most of us for it. xD I waste so much time on Twitter when I should be doing other things lol.

  4. E.

Lovely post! I’m listening to a book by Matt Haig at the moment and he’s hilarious and super positive!
I love Nina Varela’s tweets where she posts her character’s icons from picrew 🙂

    • I’ve read some of his fiction, but I’ve been wanting to read some of his nonfiction! I’ve heard great things about them. I haven’t heard of Nina Varela, but I’ll have to look her up.

    • Yeah, that’s rough. I started just by following authors that blogger friends of mine retweeted. xD It’s an easy rabbit hole to fall down.

    • Thank you! I’m glad you do. Cat pictures are always a win! I love following Seanan McGuire just because she often has whole threads of fluffy pictures and I need more of that in my life. xD
