TBR Status: Error. StackOverflowException. Cannot complete request.

Sooo … I actually didn’t do too bad this month? Wow. Feels weird to say, but I sort of slightly succeeded in the whole don’t request aaall the books thing. I’m kind of proud of myself and also concerned, because clearly, this is a trap.

I’ve been working more hours at the library, which some of you may know is actually my second job, so … I’m tired. Loving it, but tired. Also means I haven’t had nearly as much time to read as I’d anticipated, and since I started falling behind on ARCs, I did the adult thing and curbed my requests.

Doing the adult thing sucks. It’s really not any fun at all, and I don’t recommend it. Gosh, adulting is lame.

Physical Haul

I haven’t taken pictures in … longer than I care to admit. My poor Instagram account. So no pictures of my physical haul, because I have new bookshelves! Which means my library is currently in a state of upheaval, and everyone in my house (myself included) has been working full-time (sometimes more) plus pitching in to care for the Minion, so time’s a little scarce. So my library is chaos, and no one wants to see that, so forgive me for the lack of pictures in today’s post.

The Bone Houses     Hope Island     The Archer at Dawn

The Bone Houses: This was a gift off my Amazon wishlist, and I so appreciated it! It came at the perfect time, when I was having an absolutely lousy week, and I can’t wait to read it. I keep hearing something about a goat that I’ll obviously love? Which is weird, but okay, I’m looking forward to meeting this goat.

Hope Island: Sci-fi thriller that involves archaeology! Of course I had to read this. I was lucky enough to be included on the blog tour, which is in just a few days, so I can talk more about this book then.

The Archer at Dawn: I’ve got the physical ARC of this one, also for a blog tour! The cover’s really pretty, even though the book’s thicker than I thought. Still … I’ve been reading the first book, and even though I haven’t finished it, I’m looking forward to picking this one up already!

Kindle Haul

Ink & Sigil     Blazewrath Games     Ring Shout     Over the Woodward Wall     The Boy, the Wolf, and the Stars

Ink & Sigil: Set in Scotland! Which is always a draw for me. An urban fantasy about a cursed man whose apprentices keep dying, who has to become a paranormal detective in order to solve the case. This sounds like it’s going to be so much fun to read.

Blazewrath Games: This book was obviously written just for me, and I’d like to thank the author for reading my mind. It’s pitched as Quidditch Through the Ages meets How to Train Your Dragon, and I love it. Everything about it is just absolutely perfect.

Ring Shout: I’ve actually been wanting to read this author for quite a while and haven’t had a chance yet, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. An alternate history involving magic and black power? I’m intrigued. It sounds like it’ll be a really neat twist.

Over the Woodward Wall: I have a real love/hate relationship with Seanan McGuire’s writing. I LOVE her writing style, but I don’t always like how her diversity feels shoehorned in and awkward to me. That being said, I’ll still obviously read pretty much anything she writes and at least give it a shot, so when I saw this, I was excited! It gives me Wayward Children vibes, but for a younger audience, so I’m really curious how it’s going to turn out.

The Boy, the Wolf, and the Stars: This was comped to Nevermoor, so I’m obviously going to give it a chance. Also, that cover is fabulous. I don’t even know how to describe this one, except that it has giant wolves, a fox sidekick, and so much fun magicky stuff going on that I just couldn’t resist.

Forest of Souls     A Song Below Water     Plain Bad Heroines     Embassy of the Dead     The Tiger at Midnight

Forest of Souls: I was able to get on a blog tour for this, and I’m so freaking excited! I fell in love the moment I saw that cover and knew I had to read this. Everything about it just sounds fabulous.

A Song Below Water: This is another blog tour book! I was really hesitant on this one and whether it would be my thing, but ultimately, it sounded too good to pass up (and I read an excerpt of the beginning and enjoyed it). Also, I’ve been watching Grimm lately with the fam, and the idea of a Siren in Portland made me giggle and was absolutely perfect.

Plain Bad Heroines: Obviously that title just screams me, doesn’t it? It’s a horror/comedy comped to The Haunting of Hill House, which really intrigues me. I’ll probably either love it or hate it, no in-betweens. I do love humor, though, and it’s a story within a story, so yeah, I’m super curious about this one and hope to love it.

Embassy of the Dead: I don’t know why, but something about this reminds me of The Graveyard Book. I don’t even know if that’s an apt comparison, but that’s what it made me think of. I just love the voice in the summary, and it sounds like a really fun (and funny) sort of book, which is definitely something I’m up for.

The Tiger at Midnight: I’d really meant to read this since it came out last year, and I didn’t. Oops? Technically, I got a digital copy from the blog tour I’m part of, but I went ahead and bought the Kindle version, too, because it was on sale and why not. I’ve been loving a lot of books based on Indian mythology lately, and enemies-to-lovers gets me every time, so I’ve definitely been looking forward to this one.

    • I somehow didn’t even realize that was connected to Middlegame?! Well, shucks. I should probably read Middlegame first lol. I love book connections.

    • Wow, okay, way to call me out. *hides under blanket* So my curbing is still going slightly overboard. What can I say? LOL. To be fair, some requests were made the previous month and only just went through. I actually didn’t request that many during May. xD Three books sounds perfect (and much more manageable!).

    • I’m really excited about that one, too! It looks really good, and the fact that it’s yet another pseudonym makes me think it’s going to be different from her other work.

  1. I love the cover for The Boy, the Wolf, and the Stars! I also have a review copy of The Archer at Dawn. I’m glad to hear you’re looking forward to it based on the first book because I haven’t read book one either. (A copy is being shipped to me though!) I also love the cover for Blazewrath Games. The premise looks interesting too!

    • That’s definitely what first caught my attention on that one! I’ve read both The Tiger at Midnight and the Archer at Dawn now, and they were fantastic! The second book was actually better, and now I can’t wait for book three. xD What have I done?!

    • I still haven’t read October Daye, and I’m not quite sure why. Wayward Children is hit or miss for me. I’ve loved half of them and was meh about half of them, but the worlds are so much fun, and they’re such quick reads. I do love McGuire’s writing style, though, so I’ll pretty much give anything she writes a try. xD
