It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

First of all, this was pitched as Quidditch + Dragons, and does it live up to that? Why yes, yes it does. So obviously it was a brilliant read for me! I’m so glad I was able to get an ARC! I normally don’t read books so far ahead of their release, but I made an exception for this, because the author agreed to an interview. So come October, keep an eye out for that. 😉 As for this book, what can I say? It was filled with dragons, magic, and Boricua goodness. As someone who speaks (some) Spanish and grew up around Puerto Ricans, it was so comfortable (and I legit had nostalgia flashbacks every time Manny called Lana “nena”). If you don’t speak Spanish? There’s contextual translations, so no worries. There’s so much rep in this, too! There’s unapologetically queer characters, different ethnicities, lots of Boricua pride, and the protagonist is biracial (Hispanic/white) trying to find where she fits in the world. I don’t want to say too much more than that, for now, but I’ll be posting a full review closer to release. All I know is I’m so ready for the sequel, since this will be a duology!

Rick Riordan Presents is just knocking it out of the park lately, and I can’t get my hands on these books fast enough. When I heard an author was tackling La Llorona? Heck yeah, I was all over that. Listen, there was a long time when this was going to be four stars because our main chica, Pao? I just wasn’t feeling her. She was really getting on my nerves. But also, she’s 12, and like her, I had zero chill when I was 12. Her character arc was more than worth it, though, and I actually love how it was handled, because some of the things she did weren’t great, but they were normal for a 12-year-old, and the book addresses that. I actually learned about some myths that I didn’t know before (which I won’t tell you, because it’s really better to just discover them as you read). I will mention, though, because I think most people have heard of them, if you’re wondering, like I was, if Chupacabra would make an appearance? They do. But it’s probably not quite what you think, and I loved it!
I’m still plugging away at Mistborn, slowly but surely. I’ve been told it picks up soon, and I’m really looking forward to that! Hubby caught me reading it, so now he’s redouble his efforts to get me to read it faster. Which, you know, is why I didn’t tell him I was reading it in the first place. xD
We had a staycation this week, so we didn’t make a ton of progress on The Birth of Agent Big Butt, just because we were doing things during the day and by the time we got home, neither Minion nor I wanted to sit down and read together lol. I hope this will pick up again this week, when things’ll settle back into a more regular schedule.
Shielded by KayLynn Flanders

The kingdom of Hálendi is in trouble. It’s losing the war at its borders, and rumors of a new, deadlier threat on the horizon have surfaced. Princess Jennesara knows her skills on the battlefield would make her an asset and wants to help, but her father has other plans.
As the second-born heir to the throne, Jenna lacks the firstborn’s–her brother’s–magical abilities, so the king promises her hand in marriage to the prince of neighboring Turia in exchange for resources Hálendi needs. Jenna must leave behind everything she has ever known if she is to give her people a chance at peace.
Only, on the journey to reach her betrothed and new home, the royal caravan is ambushed, and Jenna realizes the rumors were wrong–the new threat is worse than anyone imagined. Now Jenna must decide if revealing a dangerous secret is worth the cost before it’s too late–for her and for her entire kingdom.
I was immediately sucked into this story, and I’ll admit that it’s slowed down a bit now (it’s been a lot of traveling in the beginning), but I’ve heard it’s supposed to pick up in the chapter I just hit. So far, the world has just been charming and dangerous, and there’s a mystery going on that I’m absolutely invested in solving. I’m not sure there’s too much more I can say about it right now, because it feels like not a whole lot of stuff has happened except for a handful of spoilers. Needless to say, though, I’m definitely enjoying reading this! My blog stop for this blog tour is on Sunday, so keep an eye out for my review!
August 13 is my day on the Hear Our Voices blog tour for Raybearer, and I’ve technically picked it up, but only just barely, so I didn’t add it to current reads. I’m only two chapters in, but it starts with a freaking BANG so far.
I’m still totally planning to pick up Harrow the Ninth as soon as I finish my blog tour books for the week. I wanted to have it read already, since it’s been one of my most anticipated books this year! That just … didn’t happen, though. Oops. xD
After that, I want to try to squeeze The Time of Green Magic in before I pick up my next round of blog tour reads, because it looks like it’ll be a quick, cute read, and I could use that between all the dark fantasy I’ve been reading lately.
I’m glad you enjoyed Blazewraith Games, I’m looking forward to the interview😁

Hope y’all enjoy it. I had a lot of fun reading the book and coming up with questions. 😀
So happy to see that you loved Paola Santiago! I really enjoy middle grade reads and Rick Riordan presents has such great options! I’ll have to pick it up sometime soon 😊
Happy reading!

I so recommend it! There’s only been RRP book I didn’t love so far, but that was because I just couldn’t stand the protagonist (which is usually kind of a dealbreaker for me). I’m still working my way through the imprint, but they’ve been soooo good so far!
I am curious about Shielded…great cover. Thanks for sharing, and here’s MY WWW POST

It was a pretty good read! That cover is absolutely stunning, though, I agree!
Yes to Shielded. I can’t wait to see what you think of it and of Harrow the Ninth! Happy reading 🙂
My WWW Wednesday post.
I can’t wait to pick up Harrow the Ninth, and I’m kinda sad that I haven’t yet. xD Oops.
I have a feeling your husband will be pressuring you on Mistborn for a while now that he knows you’re reading it…😂 Happy reading!

Ugh, yes. Letting him know I was reading it was a mistake (even though it was an accident haha). He’s bugged me pretty much every day about it. xD
Pleased to hear you’ve been enjoying your reading and when not doing that you’ve been enjoying a staycation. Happy reading for the coming week! 😃

Thanks! Staycations are great, and I didn’t have to see anyone the whole week. My kind of vacation. 😉
I just started Shielded and I’m not super invested yet, but I’m only a few chapters in. Some people seem to love it and some people seem to be so-so about it. I’m curious to know your final thoughts when you finish it!
I think it definitely seemed to divide readers. I’ve seen a lot of people love it. I enjoyed it, but I can’t say I loved it. I do plan on reading the sequel, though. 🙂
