It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
What would you do if you found a house full of magic?
Would you make a pet out of the cat-thing prowling the premises?
Would you lose yourself in a good book … literally?
Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

This one was a mix of a slow beginning and a wild ending, so I’ll be looking forward to the sequel, which I suspect will be a more action-packed read. I enjoyed this book, but I struggled a little with the fact that the first 50%-ish of the book was basically traveling. The pace really picked up towards the end, though, and there was a warrior princess who knew how to handle both a sword and magic, a slow-burn romance with a kind and caring prince, and some dark, intriguing world history that I can’t wait to delve more into!

This book, guys. I don’t even know what to say about it. I was a little hesitant when I started, because I was kind of thrown into this world and was extremely confused … for about two chapters. By the end of chapter two, poor little Tarisai is given the impossible task of killing the person she’s meant to love, and talk about a hook! I fell in love with this world so hard that I’m both glad it’s a series and mad that I don’t have the second book yet. The characters were all lovable and well-rounded, even the antagonist, in her own way. I honestly just can’t wait to share this book with you tomorrow, because I fell for it hard!
I made it all the way to 20% on Mistborn! I deserve a cookie or two, I think. As predicted, my husband has mentioned it almost every day since he found out I’m reading it … which kind of kills the desire to read it, as it turns out. xD
We’re on page 84 of The Birth of Agent Big Butt, and the first heroics have arrived! The family dynamics are adorable. Poor kid’s parents are new to this, and having a superpowered baby can’t make it easy. At least they don’t have to worry so much about dropping him, which was my biggest concern as a new parent.
The Time of Green Magic by Hilary McKay
Status: pg 148/229
When Abi’s father marries Max and Louis’s mom, their families start over together. Abi suddenly finds herself the middle child, expected to share far too much—especially with grubby little Louis. Then they move into an eerie, ivy-covered house, big enough for all of them.
But for the children, strange things start to happen in that house. Abi reads alone, and finds herself tumbling so deep into books, they almost seem real. Louis summons comfort from outdoors, and a startling guest arrives—is it a cat or something else? Max loses his best friend…and falls in love. Meanwhile, Louis’s secret visitor is becoming much too real. Now Abi, Max, and Louis must uncover the secrets of their new home—for there can be danger in even the most beautiful magic.
From award-winning author Hilary McKay comes a story that is at once enchanting and thrilling—if you don’t get lost in it first.
I just started this yesterday, and it’s been as fast a read as I thought it would be. I had an ARC of this, but Minion actually got it in her OwlCrate Junior box, so that seemed too perfect to pass up. It has been so freaking cute so far.
The book is about a blended family, a mother and two sons who marry a father with a single daughter, and they have to learn how to come together as a family, which is … difficult. It probably doesn’t help that their new house seems to have some sort of latent magic in it. Or the fact that they’re all going through things in their life.
The writing is very fairy-tale-ish, all light and whimsical and fun. If you’ve ever had siblings, the interactions between these three kids will absolutely steal your heart and make you laugh. Learning to be a sibling can be super hard when so many things in your life are changing at the same time, but they’re trying … for the most part.
I also love the fact that the youngest, Louis, had tubes in his ears, which changed his perception of the world a little because of how it impacted his hearing and, subsequently, understanding of what people were saying. I could so relate to this, because I had tubes at his age, too, and I ended up losing a part of my hearing. I had to have speech therapy because I couldn’t make the “R” sound properly because of it, since I couldn’t hear myself or other people well enough. So the fact that he says “a nowl” instead of “an owl” or “iffen” instead of “if” because he has trouble hearing shorter words was just so sweet and relatable!
I don’t know, guys. All the books? I have so many books I want to start immediately with no idea what I’m actually going to pick up next. I suppose I really should start on my next round of blog tour books, so I’ll probably start there. And what a round of blog tour books it is! I’m so excited.
I already peeked at the beginning of Cemetery Boys, and I absolutely love the way this opens. I’ve been so excited to read this book that I’m proud I lasted this long. My review will be posted on August 23!
I’ve heard absolutely fantastic things about The Merciful Crow, and I can’t wait to pick it up, now that I actually have a copy. I suspect I’ll love it, at which point, be prepared to hear me talk about it a lot, like I do. I should be picking that up soon because my blog stop for the Faithless Hawk tour will be on August 24!
I’ve also got The Third Sun coming up for a blog tour of the sequel, and it looks fantastic. A world of witches and angels that’s in danger? Yes, please!
I love the cover and sound of The Time of Green Magic. BTW, I love how you begin this post every week. So hilarious!

You 100% need to read Cemetery Boys. I’m not sure it’s along the lines of what you typically read? But it was one of those that’s not quite what I read, either, but I just fell in love with the lead characters, and the mystery sucked me right in.
Ugh, I’m pretty sure it’s close to that. I’m enjoying it, but it’s just so loooong lol. Which is so silly, because I read long books all the time that don’t feel that way. So I’m not sure what it is about Mistborn specifically.
The Time of Green Magic looks so cute!!

That’s interesting that the first half of Shielded was mostly travel! I feel like all the traveling usually takes place in the second installment of every trilogy or series.
