Something a lot of us have in common lately: seeing a little too much of the four walls we call home.
Also, spending more “quality” time with spouses, siblings, parents, children, or whatever type of nuisance happens to inhabit your home with you. You love them, but that was with the understanding that once a day, you’d all go your own way and come back again at night for a few hours. Look at 2020, just messing up the family social contract. Pffft.
So when I was tagged for this, of course it seemed appropriate. Thanks Jawahir for tagging me on this one! So let’s get started, shall we?

What are you currently reading?
I’ve been having a little trouble focusing on one book, so technically I have a lot of currently reading books (six, last I counted). So I just went with the most recent one. Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone is one I’ve heard good things about, and Elphinstone’s books are just starting to come to the US, which I’m excited about. I love her writing so far and will for sure be reading more by her.
What’s your favorite ‘ can’t leave the house’ activity?
Video games!
Or writing. Wait. Choosing is hard.
Video games is a family activity, and now that my husband, brother-in-law, and I usually have at least one day a week off together, we’ve got our two systems in the living room together and we’ve all been playing Portal Knights together, which is nice.
When I’m not video gaming it up, I’m working on novels. The bane of my existence. The creative endeavor that will likely eventually do me in.
A Book You’ve Been Meaning to Read Forever
I’m pretty sure there is no more appropriate book to go here than Mistborn. This is the second time I’ve started the book, and I have no idea why, but it’s just so hard for me to get through! I stalled around 25% again, but by gosh, I WILL finish it by the end of this year!
An intimidating book on your TBR
This is 800 pages, which is daunting, but it’s also post-apocalyptic with zombies, which is equally daunting for me. I don’t like zombies. I’m not sure many people like zombies. Except maybe hubby, because they’re a challenge to conquer and no one complains if you shoot them. But most normal people? Nope, no zombies, thanks.
I’ve heard great things about this book, and I look forward to reading it. I just need to summon up a little more courage first.
Top 3 Priority Books on My TBR
I actually don’t think any of these are a surprise, because they’re basically my most anticipated releases this year? And yet I still haven’t read them? I know, I’m questioning my priorities at this point, too.
First, I will read anything and everything Fredrik Backman writes, so of course Anxious People has to be on this list. Duh.
I’m also pretty sure everyone’s tired of hearing me talk about Tristan Strong by this point, so obviously Tristan Strong Destroys The World has to make this list, too. I am so pumped to read this soon!
I’m actually late reading Harrow the Ninth, which is super disappointing considering how much I loved Gideon, but I just got caught up with other things so I’m planning on catching up with it before the year ends.
Recommend a Short Book
Two for the price of one on this, because choosing is hard and I’m fickle.
I highly recommend Silver in the Wood and, in fact, the duology. It’s a very sweet M/M romance between an old soul and a young drama queen, but it’s absolutely charming. The writing evokes a Grimm’s Fairy Tale feeling, while weaving fantasy into reality.
Likewise, I’m going to recommend the entire Murderbot Diaries series, but Artificial Condition has been my favorite so far. Murderbot = win. Murderbot + ART = golden. You’ll have to read it to find out what I’m talking about. But seriously, what could make a better protagonist than an antisocial robot trying to discover why they massacred a bunch of people?
Recommend a Long Book
Do you want irreverent, dry humor and sarcasm?
Do you want backstabbing and betrayal and plots?
Do you want squad feels and characters you can love?
Do you want magic and artifacts and rebirth?
Do you want freaking DRAGONS and mimics and sentient horses?
All of that was absolutely rhetorical. Of course you do. You’re here, aren’t you?! I read the first three books of this series this year and can’t recommend them enough, even though they’re freaking giant. Even though they’re all about 600 pages each, I didn’t want to leave the world, so you won’t find me complaining about how long they are.
Something You’d Love to Do While Stuck at Home
Finish organizing my library!
No, really. If only I were stuck at home. Unfortunately, I haven’t been. I’ve had to work all along, which is really nice, but that also means that the library thing is slow-going. It’s mostly done. The new shelves are built and put in, but I still need to pull out some books I put in storage to clear out old bookshelves, and I need to reorganize the two bookshelves we kept.
What Do You Plan on Reading Next?
I’m already really feeling the spooky fall reads, so I’m wanting to continue on this massive list of fall ARCs with some creepy stuff. So far, Whispering Pines has delivered on that, though I just read the first two chapters. So technically I’ve kind of already picked it up? But it’s still on my “next” list so I’m going to count it here.

Is … is it not?! For some reason I was under the impression it involved zombies?! xD
Great post! Never heard of Anxious People before but it looks so interesting. Also not a fan of zombies, never got into them and never will.
I would highly recommend any of Fredrik Backman’s books!
Ooh, I’m tagged! This is perfect–thanks Sammie 🖤
I hope you push through Mistborn! I remember it did start off slow but then it picks up and you’re like ‘woah, why did I wait so long?!’ Haha, at least that’s how it went for me. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Whispering Pines! We know I’m a total chicken but I added that to my TBR after seeing you mention it, so I hope it’s a goodie!

I will for sure push through Mistborn. If I don’t soon, I think hubby is about ready to kill me in my sleep. If you don’t see me for a while, check the obituaries. Hubby did it. xD
Whispering Pines was totally a good one. Need to work on my review, but yes, you definitely should read it!!!! Also, it’s apparently a series.
