August OwlCrate Junior Unboxing || Enchanted Objects

Posted September 17, 2020 by Sammie in book box, unboxing / 3 Comments

I’m going to tell you right now that this is, hands down, Minion’s favorite box so far.

I had absolutely no idea what to expect from the theme (Enchanted Objects). When I think of enchanted objects, I immediately think of Beauty and the Beast, so I was surprised at all the different objects in this box inspired by things I hadn’t even thought of!

I’m going to apologize upfront in that there aren’t a whole ton of pictures for this one. It came in late in the day and Minion didn’t want to wait and we were in a hurry, so I actually didn’t photograph all the things I should have, because I’m a slacker. Plus, this post is super late (it’s almost time for the next box now!). So I’m totally rocking this book blogger thing, obviously.

Anyway, let’s get on with the unboxing!

The unboxing go off to a great start, considering the moment I set the box down and turned away to call Minion, our beast of a male cat, Kronus, hopped up and did a very impressive cosplay of Gollum protecting his precious.

It’s a real problem in this house. If Kronus sees a closed box, he sits on it. If there’s an open box anywhere, his sister, Rhea, sits in it. Between them, they’ve got the box sitch locked down, man.

First up was a 100-piece puzzle inspired by none other than Harry Potter. Minion had to ask what the book was, which pains me, but she wasn’t a huge HP fan. Won’t read the books. Won’t watch the movies. The only thing I can get her to do is play Lego Harry Potter with me, and that’s about it. The picture is gorgeous, though, and she does love puzzles!

Minion’s Thoughts: We can do the puzzle together! And then maybe we can give it to (her 13-year-old aunt) because she really likes Harry Potter and she can frame it.

These were both a big hit, and mostly to blame for me not actually getting a picture of all the items together. Minion immediately grabbed them and wandered off. I barely had time to snap this picture. The pen is based on Percy Jackson, with a lightning bolt on one side in fluid that moves up and down as you move the pen. Minion has no idea what Percy Jackson is, but she loved the pen. I can’t imagine where she gets her pen fiend tendencies from. And the coin purse? Pretty much everything Minion wanted, and she’s used it ever since she got it. She’s so proud of it and immediately fell in love.

Minion’s Thoughts: *excited squealing* I’M GONNA GO PUT MY MONEY IN IT RIGHT NOW.
Me: … can I even get a pic-
Minion: No! *disappears into her bedroom*

This came with a second little book of stories, from the author of last month’s OwlCrate Junior box, Hilary McKay. I already read A Time of Green Magic, and it was fabulous, so I’m excited to dig into these short stories! Minion, on the other hand, wasn’t as thrilled. She kind of groaned at the idea of needing to do more reading. Honestly, some days I’m not sure whose kid she is.

Minion: … do I have to read that, too?
Me: Well, I mean, I guess you don’t ha-
Minion: Oh, good. *hands booklet to me and walks away with her coin purse and pen*

This month’s book was …

A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison

I admit that I hadn’t heard of this book before, but it looks so stinking cute! Minion absolutely fell in love with the cover right away, and she’s said that she might read it next when she’s done with the (pretty big) book she’s been working on getting through lately. I can’t wait to pick it up myself!

September’s OwlCrate Junior Theme is …

I’m super excited to admit that I completely forgot to cancel the autorenew, so oops, looks like we’re stuck with another three months of book boxes? Shucks. What ever will we do? xD I haven’t told Minion yet. As far as she knows, she’s done, so it’ll be fun to see her face when this one comes in! We did still have a chat about what might be in it.

Me: What do you think will be in next month’s box?
Minion: Something spooky.
Me: Like zombies?
Minion: *rolls her eyes* NO!
Me: Like what, then?
Minion: Like ghosts. And skeletons.
Me: Like a mirror?! Because your face terrifies me.
Minion: Mommyyyyyyy. *sighs*

  1. Oh. Oh. Ohhhh. But tell me you have heard of Michelle Harrison before? Because it would be really sad if you hadn’t. She writes wonderful books. I got A Pinch of Magic at home as well but the ebook.
And I love that second small fairytale book. It looks so cute. Too bad that Minion wasn’t soooo excited about everything in the box but good thing you will be able appreciate it. 🙂

  2. Ooh, love this! I like the remade cover they did but I do also like the original cover for this one. It’s been on my TBR for ages but I also just saw it on sale the other day so I’m scooping it up 😃 Hope you and minion both enjoy it! Also, are you getting or did you get the Hollowpox Owlcrate Jr box?!
