September Book Haul || Don’t Judge Me …

TBR Status: DON’T JUDGE ME! Hey! You! I can feel you judging me!

I would just like to point out that this book haul is going to be ridiculous. I’m not even gonna lie. My father sent me money for my birthday and said, “I know you’re just going to spend it on books, so …” You know, like it was a bad thing.

Have you ever gotten in a box of books you ordered and thought … maybe, just maybe, I’ve gone a little overboard this time? I totally felt that when several boxes arrived for me. I have no regrets. Except that now I need to shuffle my shelves a little bit. But still! So many good books.

Physical Haul

Let’s start with blog tour copies with this month, shall we?

I received Loretta Little Looks Back for a tour I already did with Hear Our Voices. It was an interesting book, filled with voice and meant to be read aloud, which was really unique.

The Sisters of Straygarden Place was for a tour I did with JeanBookNerd. It’d make for a fabulous fall read, with a creepy atmosphere and some low-key mystery going on. It’s also a story about siblings, which always gets me.

Last but not least, The Fires of Vengeance is for an upcoming tour with Caffeine Book Tours. I’ve heard such great things about this series, and do you see that freaking awesome dragon on the cover there?! *flails*

Both Broken Wish and Fiends on the Other Side are for book tours with Rockstar Books, and I’m so looking forward to them both! The first is a fairy tale retelling set in 1800s Germany, and it looks absolutely fantastic! The latter is the recent installment in the Disney Chills series, which is a horror series based on Disney movies. Yes, that is Dr. Facilier in the background. Yes, I am ridiculously excited to read this.

The Mutant Mushroom Takeover was kindly provided by the author (along with those neat mushroom stickers pictured there!) which Minion almost ran off with right away. We’ve very generously agreed to share, and I think it’s actually going to be her next read now. It combines science with spooky, and those are two of my favorite things!

In my endless quest to own all the Terry Pratchett books, I’ve managed to add three more to my collection! I Shall Wear Midnight and The Shepherd’s Crown are both from the Tiffany Aching series, which I really want to read (but which I only own half of currently). I hadn’t heard of Thud, but it’s apparently part of the City Watch series and it was cheap, so I grabbed it!

I’m going to confess, hands down, this is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve done in the name of books. I had Arlo Finch in the Lake of the Moon already. In paperback. But book one I owned in hardback, and I found Arlo Finch in the Kingdom of Shadows also in hardback. Soooo … I may have re-purchased book two in hardback just so they’d all match. Even though my shelves are organized by color and they don’t even sit next to each other on the shelf. Was this incredibly petty of me? Absolutely. But look how pretty they look together!

This is what I call Birthday Box #1. That’s what I’m totally using as justification. There are more boxes coming, but you know what? I can worry about that next month, so there! Beating the system here.

I’ve already read Deathless Divide, but I loved that and the first one (not pictured here … in a future box) so much that I had to buy them both. The same goes for The Trials of Morrigan Crow, which I’m still hoping I can convince Minion to read. It hasn’t worked yet, but if I leave not-so-subtle clues, I’m determined it’ll happen.

I bought The Hero’s Guide to Storming the Castle to round off that series (book three is … also on its way. DON’T JUDGE ME.)

LIFEL1K3 and Kinslayer were purchased just because they’re by Kristoff and I’m determined to read all his work now. I’ll need the rest of both series still, of course, but all good things with time. This is the same reason I grabbed The Rest of Us Just Live Here, because even though Patrick Ness always destroys me, I still want to read all his work.

The rest are really all just books that came highly recommended by other people. I can’t remember who recommended The Cryptid Catcher, but it looked super cute, and Minion was interested in it, too. Susan @ Novel Lives has continually recommended the Three Dark Crowns series. I have the first book, but I’ve now added One Dark Throne to my collection. Tammy @ Books, Bones and Buffy (I’m pretty sure it was her? She seems to be to blame for most of my TBR that isn’t Susan’s doing) highly recommended A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World, even though it’s going to obviously destroy my feels.

This is what I call my Susan Stack of Shame, because she keeps telling me all these books I need to read that I didn’t actually own or have a way to get my hands on, and now I do!

The three standing books—Ashlords, Elysium Girls, and Wilder Girls—were birthday gifts from her! They’re all books I couldn’t get my hands on otherwise and that I’m super excited to be able to read!!

I know that Susan has talked about how much she loved Gravemaidens when it came out, as well as Dark Skies and Dark Shores, which include pirates and all kind of goodness that I obviously must read!

Kindle Haul

The Head of Mimir     The Bone Maker     Remote Control     Cece Rios and the Desert of Souls     The Mask of Mirrors

The Head of Mimir: I had a wish granted on NetGalley!!! And it was about Heimdall, so of course I squeed just a little bit. As much as I like Loki, I’m so ready to read a book about Heimdall, who’s an entirely underrated character.

The Bone Maker: Oh, hai there. Illegal magic? Heck yes. Also, FIVE warriors, all with significant issues, who are clearly gray characters? Totally sign me up for this.

Remote Control: Adopted daughter of the Angel of Death, you say? That’s gonna be a big yes for me. The cover looks fabulous, but this description sounds even better. I’m all for this!

Cece Rios and the Desert of Souls: Why, a middle grade book based on Mexican mythology, including brujas and adventure? *grabby hands*

The Mask of Mirrors: I’m always up for books where the protagonist is a con artist. Add to that corrupt magic and feuds? This sounds just dark enough for me, yup yup.

We Could Be Heroes     Warriors of Wing and Flame     The Missing Dragon     The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry     Gilded Serpent

We Could Be Heroes: I’ve enjoyed other books by Mike Chen that I’ve read, and this one has superheroes. You have to know I love superhero books by now! I also happen to be a fan of conspiracies.

Warriors of Wing and Flame: I’ve heard great things about this series, and I’m glad to be on a book tour for this one! I actually just bought book one, so this was perfect timing.

The Missing Dragon: I’ve seen a couple reviews about how great this one is, so I’m super excited to give it a try! It looks funny and fun, and I could definitely use more books like that. Plus, more graphic novels!

The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry: A F/F romance filled with assassins, with a main character who’s an alcoholic thief? This has me written aaaall over it!

Gilded Serpent: Susan @ Novel Lives has yelled about this series so much that I finally bought it … right in time for book three to be announced! So since I’ll be reading the first two books, I figured I might as well read all three! Huzzah!

  1. I’ve also started getting the Discworld books in print, ordered 4 this month but they are being so slow about reaching me!

I’ll probably also get Deathless Divide in print as I loved Dread Nation so much

    • Waiting for books you’ve ordered is the worst, isn’t it?! I hope they get to you soon! If you liked Dread Nation, I soooo recommend Deathless Divide! It was even better than Dread Nation, in my opinion.

  2. Hey, you’re showing up in my reader again – great!
Wow, that’s a lot of books. But I won’t judge because – let’s be honest, I have also bought too many books in September. Ebooks will be the death of me.
The Mutant Mushroom and Friends on the other side sound great, as does Cece Rios. I got Lifelike and The Rest of Us just live here at home too but they’re not on the “Read immediatly” list. 😉

  3. I’m throwing *chefs kisses* all around! I refuse to believe there’s such a thing as too much with books and I don’t care if people are gonna disagree coz we are gonna keep buying books anyway, aren’t we?! YES. NO JUDGY (<jeez that's really weirdly spelt)! I'm so glad that you got to add some awesome books to your list. You're also definitely not the only one who has ever bought a hardcover when they've already had the paperbacks *cough* just saying!!! 😝 I hope you enjoy all these books, Sammie!

  4. I never buy books for myself, only for my school library. My parents never bought books; whenever I would ask, they would tell me to get the book from the library. Old habits die hard!
