With the holidays coming up, I come to you today with a joint giveaway opportunity that I’d love for anyone who’s interested to be a part of.
2020 has been a bit of a downer for a lot of us … and that’s probably a big understatement. I feel like the bookish community deserves to end the year on a high note. There’s nothing more feel-good than a bookish giveaway, right? But this one has as bit of a twist thrown in.
Shall I tell you more about it? Sure. Follow me and we’ll dive a bit into the details.
What is the 12 Days of Bookish Giveaways?
Originally based off the 12 Days of Christmas (but realizing that not everybody celebrates Christmas), the 12 Days of Bookish Giveaways will be a giveaway during the month of October where someone wins a giveaway every day for 12 days. Sounds simple enough, right? BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
How does the giveaway work?
During November, people will be able to fill out a form to sign up for the giveaway. But there’s a twist. You won’t be able to sign up yourself, you have to nominate someone else to win the giveaway. Because spreading the love always feels better than winning something yourself, right?
The basic gist is that Person A (who we’ll call Bob) nominates person B (Mary) for the 12 Days of Bookish Giveaways. Bob will need to provide two things: a nomination paragraph basically introducing Mary and why they think Mary should get a gift and also Mary’s wishlist. The very unfortunate caveat here is that the nominee must have a bookish wishlist that doesn’t require their address to be entered when ordering off of it (ie. Amazon, Book Depository).
The point of this is a surprise, so Mary shouldn’t have any idea she’s been nominated until she receives her gift, ideally. I’ve sort of intentionally tried to match this up with a time when people are generally creating and sharing wishlists on Twitter, especially, through tags like #amazonwishlist, #bookwishlist, #bookishwish, #wishlist, #clearthelists (for teachers), etc.
When nominations close, that’s where I (and by extension, you donors) come in.
What would I need from you donors?
Basically, donors will pledge to fulfill at least one giveaway, which means you’d be promising to buy an item worth $15 or less on one of the nominee’s wishlists.
In order to keep this as fair as possible, I will compile a list of all nominee paragraphs, anonymize them, and allow each donor to pick whichever one speaks to them. One donor per nominee, though not all nominees will be chosen for a gift (it’s a limited giveaway, after all). Donors are free to pick as many nominees as they want, but it’s important that donors commit to purchasing at least one gift if they sign up to participate.
At the point a donor chooses a nominee paragraph they like, they will be emailed a link to the nominee’s wishlist to pick an item.
Want to become a donor?
If this is something that interests you and you want to become a part of spreading some bookish cheer to wrap up this year, please fill out this Google Form with your information to sign up as a donor, and I’ll be in touch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I donating money or a random item or what?
You will be choosing one item from a nominee’s wishlist. You will be able to read the (anonymized) nomination paragraphs and choose one that speaks to you, and you’ll buy a gift from their wishlist.
If I become a donor, do I have to nominate someone?
Nope! They’re two separate sides of the giveaway. You’re certainly welcome to nominate someone, though you can’t fulfill your own nomination, just to keep things fair.
Still have questions?

This sounds like so much fun! I love the idea of nominating someone else! (Though I admit I have never looked at someone’s wishlist and would have to do some digging to see if they had one!) Good luck with sign-ups! 😀
