It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
What if you knew where the secret to becoming a God was hidden?
Would you steal it?
Would you shed your mortal shell?
Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Escape Pod: The Science Fiction Anthology (review will be posted 10/22)
★★★☆☆ || Goodreads
Stay tuned for my full review. What I will say is that, like with any anthology, this was a lot of hit and miss. My problem wasn’t that the quality of the stories was poor. Actually, on the contrary! You might notice this is an all-star cast of authors, and the stories were all pretty on par with that. My biggest problem was that at least half of the stories just … ended. Sometimes right in the middle of the story, sometimes right before it gets to the best part, but largely without conclusions. At which point, I felt kind of cheated and annoyed, because that’s not how short stories work. You don’t stop right before they take on the bad guy or go on the quest or do the thing! *flails*

This was a final buddy read with Mari @ Tirilu, and it was every bit as amazing as the first one! I’ve officially joined the throngs of people impatiently waiting for book three. I absolutely loved getting to see France, and I actually learned things, which is so weird but great. I really enjoyed the way Schwab wove in the French language and culture, to really immerse readers. Plus, Cass and Jacob still make just an adorable team. The stakes are definitely ramped up from book one, and we get to learn some important things about Jacob. So I’m definitely looking forward to what the next book might reveal!
Sisters of Shadow and Light by Sara B. Larson

I don’t even know where to start with this. The writing is absolutely gorgeous, but I feel like it was a little too gorgeous in some spots. Which is weird to say, but there were definitely areas that I felt like the description bogged the story down. The pacing was a little back and forth. There were parts that seemed to fly, where I was really interested, but then parts that seemed to drag on forever. I felt like this was an issue particularly in the first part, where the setting was just this castle, and there was a lot of inner drama and monologuing and focus on feelings. Also, people in this book cry a lot. Like a lot, a lot. I get it in some aspects, but it was so often that it really stood out to me. That being said, this world is wonderful, and I look forward to where this story goes! The romance in this feels like it was kind of sudden, but I thought that fits the characters (hey, if you’re locked away from the world and you suddenly meet a guy, any guy, and you’re a straight teen girl, you’re probably going to be smitten … that’s fair). I’ve seen some reviews complain about the romance, but I thought this was believable for the women. Maybe less so for the men.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but my reading speed has absolutely tanked. That’s easily explained by the fact that I’ve officially started working at the library full-time, and it’s been a little chaotic getting used to the new schedule. I’m still attempting to find a good work/life balance, but when it’s all books, that sometimes makes it difficult.
My Overdrive checkout for The Poppy War actually expired, and I had to switch to the paperback copy that, thank goodness, finally finished cataloging at the library. Perfect timing. So I have absolutely no idea where I am in it, but I’m continuing on all the same!
I’ve also made absolutely no progress on Ring Shout, which I plan on picking up and outright finishing after my current read.

They are each other’s fiercest love, greatest danger, and only hope.
Séverin and his team members might have successfully thwarted the Fallen House, but victory came at a terrible cost — one that still haunts all of them. Desperate to make amends, Séverin pursues a dangerous lead to find a long lost artifact rumored to grant its possessor the power of God.
Their hunt lures them far from Paris, and into the icy heart of Russia where crystalline ice animals stalk forgotten mansions, broken goddesses carry deadly secrets, and a string of unsolved murders makes the crew question whether an ancient myth is a myth after all.
As hidden secrets come to the light and the ghosts of the past catch up to them, the crew will discover new dimensions of themselves. But what they find out may lead them down paths they never imagined.
A tale of love and betrayal as the crew risks their lives for one last job.
I’ve been so eager to jump back into this series! This is the continuation of a buddy read with Keri @ Are You My Book, and we’re both a little behind, but we’re behind together, and that’s what matters.
I won’t spoil anything from the first book, if you haven’t read it yet, but all I’ll say is that this beginning has been so freaking emotional. Everyone’s a little broken still from the events of the first book, myself included, and I just want to fix all my little preciouses.
I’m not very far into this yet, but I’m so excited about this book that I simultaneously want to whip through it and also never finish it because then it’s over and I’m relegated to the hell of endlessly waiting for the next one.
I’m soooo freaking excited to be on a blog tour for Hollowpox. Some of you may have heard me mention Nevermoor about ten million times, to the point where you considered throttling me. I’m thankful you didn’t, because then how would I read Hollowpox?! Poltergeists can’t turn single pages, okay. It’d be very difficult. This is one of my most anticipated releases this year, and I’m definitely digging into it ASAP.
I’ve also got an upcoming blog tour for Warriors of Wing and Flame, so now that I’ve finished the first one, it’s time to get on with the second! I’m definitely curious to find out what’s next.
Yet another upcoming blog tour is for Fires of Vengeance, so I need to squeeze The Rage of Dragons in first, and I’m super excited to get to read it! Definitely seems like a world I’m going to fall in love with. Also, it’s hard to go wrong with dragons!
Enjoy your blog tour! Your books look tempting, and I hope you love them all. Here’s MY WWW POST

Tunnel of Bones sounds interesting, but is there a lot of unexplained French phrasing? Nothing drives me battier than when an author includes lots of phrases in other languages but doesn’t translate, leaving me to try and figure out what they meant. I’m in the middle of three books where there’s other languages spoken and only one actually does the translation. Sorry, rant over. Happy reading!

Oooooh The Rage of Dragons is a thicc book isn’t it? I can’t wait to hear what you think about it! Yay for all these! Great job <3
Oh noo, that’s probably the thing I hate the most with anthologies/short stories and that’s what I struggle with most. I think I should give up reading them lol they’re just not for me! Hope you’re enjoying The Poppy War though 🥰
ALSO, ERMAHGERD. I’m more than a little jealous that you’re on the blog tour for Hollowpox but AAAH I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. I am itching to get my hands on a copy but it’ll probably be a while before I get to it (unless I cave and decide to buy the e-book instead of waiting for the PB to release in Indonesia). 😂 Happy reading, Sammie!

To be honest, Sammie, I hadn’t noticed that your reading had ‘tanked’, but then you read so much more than me when ‘tanked’ that I wouldn’t notice to be fair! 😅 I hope you’re able to get your life, work, reading balance sorted soon though, so you can get back on some of these great sounding books. Take care and happy reading! 👋📚😃

Sammie I hope you get back to Ring Shout soon. It was a really good book! In the meantime enjoy The Silvered Serpents!
Wait, what do you mean, final buddy read? Does that mean that you never wanna buddy read with me again? 😧
Also, I’m super jealous that you get to read Hollowpox. Not that I couldn’t. I mean, it’s out now, right? I could just buy it? But then again, I shouldn’t buy so many books anymore. I still have so many that I should read….

It makes me happy to see you loved Tunnel Of Bones as much as I did! Such a brilliant MG series… I hope you will enjoy your books this week and happy reading! xx
Hah, I would never want to be a god, that’s too much work. 😉
I am curious to see your full thoughts on The Silvered Serpents! I hope to be reading that one soon-ish myself. 🙂
I’ve just finished Warriors of a Wings and Flame and enjoyed it as a whole. It definitely fell into a few pitfalls from the first book (wobbly pacing etc) but I enjoyed the character growth. Hope you enjoy it ☺️
