With the dumpster fire that is 2020 coming to a close, myself and a few other bookish people want to spread a little love.
Through this series of giveaways, we hope to give the bookish community something to look forward to. With that said, nominations are now open. Isn’t that exciting?
Nominations will remain open from November 1 – November 30.
Maybe I should tell you a bit more about the giveaway first, though, right?
What is the 12 Days of Bookish Giveaways?
As I said, it’s a series of 12 giveaways, one a day during the month of December.
The whole point is really to spread the bookish joy, which means there’s a twist! A person can’t sign up for the giveaway themselves, they can only nominate someone else who they think should receive a gift this December.
So how does it work?
At the end of this post, there’s a nomination form to fill out to nominate someone. A nomination is not a guarantee of a gift. Unfortunately, because there are only so many donors, donors will choose which they want to fulfill.
Here’s the general process:
Bob decides to nominate Mary.
Bob fills out the nomination form, giving two things: Mary’s bookish wishlist and also a nomination paragraph telling the donors why he wants Mary to get a bookish gift.
During the 12 days in December, one nomination paragraph will be publicly posted and announced as receiving a gift. These can either be anonymous or give the first name of the person nominated. Either way, the nominator will remain anonymous.
Steps for Nominating Someone
- Find someone you think should get a bookish gift in December.
- Get a link to their wishlist on either Amazon or Book Depository (so that it does not require an address to be entered in order to purchase an item for them).
- Write a short nomination paragraph (4-5 sentences minimum, please, to stand the best chances of being picked) about why you’re nominating this person for the giveaway.
- Fill out the form here with all the above information.
Nomination Form Example
Nominee Name: Sammie
Nominee Contact: @srbetler
Nominee Wishlist: Amazon
Nomination Paragraph: Sammie spends a lot of time living in Susan @ Novel Live’s head and raising her dragons, which are super expensive to feed. Clearly, she needs all the help she can get. On top of that, she’s been summoned by some random wizard (or so he claims) to participate in the Clear Your Sh*t Readathon and save Shelfla, and heroes obviously deserve bookish items. Assuming she survives, of course. Her days are also spent throwing books at unsuspecting patrons and unashamedly adding books to others’ TBRs, and turnabout is fair play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I nominate more than one person?
Yes, but I’m going to ask that you not submit more than three people.
What if I don’t know my nominee’s wishlist link or what if they don’t have one?
You’d better get really creative, then, and try to figure it out! I tried to have this while people are naturally sharing wishlist links, in general, so hopefully that makes it a little easier. Otherwise, try to come up with a sneaky way to trick them into giving you their wishlist or making one!
Have a question? Email sammie@thebookwyrmsden.com or DM me on Twitter @srbetler to ask!
How can I become a donor?
Are you interested in fulfilling wishes for some of these fabulous nominees? We’re still accepting donors, and if you’d more information about becoming a donor, you can read the blog post here or fill out this form.
This is a great idea. I’m pretty sure I signed up to be a donor, so I’m looking forward to getting to play Secret Santa!
