Book Titles That Should Be Song Titles

Posted November 10, 2020 by Sammie in top ten tuesdays / 35 Comments

I’m pretty sure book titles are meant to be catchy by their very nature … and you know what else is catchy?

If you said songs, you’re absolutely right!

If you said COVID-19 … you’re also technically right, but I’m still judging you for it.

There are some really interesting song titles out there (Meatloaf and Fall Out Boy, looking at you). But what about book titles? Also super interesting, right?

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is book titles that would make great song titles.

I actually missed the TTT about book titles that would make good band names, so I for sure wasn’t about to miss this one! I actually love looking at book titles and trying to guess what the book is about, so this week’s prompt is perfect!

The Rage of Dragons

Artist: The Piano Guys

Listen, if we can have Flight of the Bumblebees, we can have The Rage of Dragons, okay? No offense, but who cares about stinking bumblebees?! Whereas, pretty sure everyone loves dragons. Or everyone that matters, at the very least.

I absolutely love The Piano Guys, and I’m always super impressed at what they’re able to come up with. I think their combination of the cello and the piano would make for an awesome musical atmosphere to totally capture the feel of this title.

My Song for Him Who Never Sang to Me

Artist: Marc Anthony

If you want to get technical, this is the title of a poetry book, which is really as close to songs as the written word can get … other than, you know, song lyrics. So maybe this is cheating.

This sounds like it would be a Marc Anthony, thing, because even just the title reminds me of Dímelo by Marc Anthony (or for the English crowd, your version was “I Need To Know,” but I hate to inform you, it doesn’t sound as good as the Spanish version. Sorry.)

OH! Ooor if we made it Spanish, Alejandro Sanz would also totally slay this song! He kills it with the super emotional, powerful songs.

Moira Ashe

Artist: Hidden Citizens

I’m definitely feeling this in the theme of O Fortuna. It’s got to be just as epic, of course. I’m pretty sure Hidden Citizens is about the only group you could say looked at a song like O Fortuna and went, “Nope, not epic enough. Let’s make it MORE epic.” So yes, that style, and with a large choir singing the lyrics, whatever they would be.

This would be one of those songs that I have absolutely no idea what they’re saying or what it’s about, but it just sounds super cool so I’d listen to it anyway. It’ll be an Alouette, if you will. Except now I know what that means, sooo … still a charming song … and a great theme song if you’re a psychopath-in-training.

A Time of Courage

Artist: Thirty Seconds to Mars

I’m feeling some This Is War vibes from this song, crossed with 100 Suns. It’d be ominous and uplifting all at the same time! How? I don’t know. But Thirty Seconds to Mars could pull it off, for sure. I couldn’t even tell you anything about this song, because Thirty Seconds to Mars just surprises me with their music, and I love how unique it is. It feels a bit like an adventure … in a good way.

Dragon Divider

The Wraith and the Wielder

Artist: Sarah Brightman

Sarah Brightman is the best at story songs like Hijo de la Luna and Figlio Perduto, which sound all fancy and sophisticated because they’re in another language, but both of which are really about pretty crappy parents. Yay?

The Wraith and the Wielder, though, seems like it could be about something other than children suffering, which is A-OK with me! Maybe a forbidden love? Some sort of sordid love affair with horrid ramifications? A forlorn sort of drama? I’d be here for aaaall of that.

The Song of Achilles

Artist: Josh Groban

If you’ve ever heard of pretty much any of Josh Groban’s songs, you’ll know how utterly amazing he is. This sounds to me a bit like an epic story song, and he could totally pull it off. He did that one song from Troy called “Remember Me,” and it still gives me freaking chills every time I hear it, so I imagine something more along those lines with that sort of musical feel. Ugh, it’d be amazing.

A Monster Calls

Artist: Fall Out Boy

I don’t know, guys. It’s Fall Out Boy. They can do whatever the frig they want and absolutely rock it. I’m not sure what else to say? Lately, I’m really loving their “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)” and their remake of “What’s This” for Nightmare Revisited. Honestly, I love most of their work, and I think they’re usually prone to longer, more … umm … unique titles, I think they could work with this one, too, and make it pretty epic. Maybe something more along the lines of “Centuries”?

Us Against You

Artist: The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

If I’m honest, I really just love “Face Down” and “Your Guardian Angel,” so I’d be up for pretty much anything from them. This sounds like a song they would be really good for, though. Again, I can’t even honestly say what the heck this song would be. This is a band that I just kind of click on their music videos and am usually pleasantly surprised.

Dragon Divider

The Memory of Souls

Artist: Lindsey Sterling & Derek Hough

Honestly, either of these artists on their own is magical. They both bring a charm and talent that is just … argh! There’s no words for it. But in the few things I’ve seen them work together? Oh. My. Gosh. Phenomenal. Like Kairos? Just love it.

The Memory of Souls sounds like something either one of them would title their work, and it sounds like the name of a really powerful melody.

To Ashes We Run

Artist: Of Monsters and Men

When I first saw this title, I immediately thought of Of Monsters and Men and their performance of “Silhouettes” for Catching Fire. Then again, their style is pretty unique, and it’s usually easy to tell when a song is theirs. I absolutely love their sound, though, and how they basically tell stories in their songs. They pack a lot into not much time! I imagine they could make a super powerful song with a title like this.

  1. Oof, YEEEEEEEEES! I love what you did with this week’s post — even picking artists to go with the song title!? So good 😍 I see some good ole faves on here as well — Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (what a throwback) and 30STM! I would definitely listen to these tracks! Great post, Sammie! So glad you didn’t miss out this week 😉

    • You’ve officially made me feel old, Dini. Noooo, not a throwback. They still totally produce music, so it still counts as modern, right?! T_T *whispers* We’re getting old, Dini.

  2. Love your choices! Fall Out Boy can make any song title work, but I’d love to hear their take on A Monster Calls 🙂 And A Time Of Courage does feel like it would be a perfect 30 Seconds To Mars song, I can already imagine it now.

    • I totally agree! I actually had several titles I saw that could work for FOB, because they can do just about anything, and I actually had to narrow it down and pick just one. xD

    • I actually haven’t read that yet (yes, I know, I’m ashamed of myself, too). It’s still on my TBR, but I’ve loved all of Backman’s books so far!

    • Oooh, did it?! That’s exciting. I haven’t actually read it yet, but it (like everything else, at this point) is on my TBR. Maybe I need to move it up a few notches. Hmmm.

    • Oh my gosh, YES! I hadn’t even thought of that, but you’re so totally right. xD Man, now I want that to be a thing, too.

Pffft. Bumblebees ain’t got nothing on dragons. They’re okay, I suppose. But still. Too many bumblebee songs, not enough dragon songs.

    • Yeah! I always love watching the behind the scenes for their music videos, too, because the videos themselves are so breathtaking, and then sometimes you see all the agony that went into filming that five-minute video and it just gives you much more appreciation for it. 😀

    • Well, I’m a teensy bit extra, so I chose an artist. The prompt was just book titles that would make good song titles. Just don’t be extra like me and you’re good. xD

  3. Okay this is AWESOME! Not only did you pick phenomenal title choices, but the artists to perform them!? This is just sheer perfection! Like I was nodding excitedly to most of these and the only ones I didn’t were the ones I wasn’t familiar with! Can you call Of Monsters and Men and get this started like, yesterday? Also I am game for anything that Lindsey Sterling is a part of so I obviously must check out her collabs with Derek Hough!
