It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
Would you face your deepest fear?
Would you take on a case, despite your misgivings?
Would you find the beast and solve the mystery?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

The Book of Kindly Deaths     The Silvered Serpents     The Finality Problem

The Book of Kindly Deaths by Eldritch Black
★★★☆ || Goodreads
I’m honestly not sure what took me so long to get to this book? It’s been on my shelf forever. It was soooo good, though! It’s written as a story within a story … and the book story is super creepy and filled with horrific things that hail from a secondary world called Grimwytch. Definitely a book to pick up if you’re wanting chills and all sorts of dark creatures! It still ended up being a fun read with adventure and mystery.

The Silvered Serpents by Roshani Chokshi
★★★★ || Goodreads
I’m not sure I have any words for this one, guys. My poor, sweet darlings. Why is book three so far away?! In the aftermath of the first book, this squad is definitely struggling. They’re trying to stay together, even as so many things are pulling them apart, but they agree on one last heist, because of course they do. It was filled with every bit of adventure and cunning as the first book, but with the added fun of fretting over these characters you’ve grown to love. This is a buddy read, and my buddy reader hasn’t quite finished yet, so I won’t say too much more than that until she does and we get a chance to discuss the whole thing, because I need a moment to process this all.

Warlock Holmes: The Finality Problem by G.S. Denning
★★★★ || Goodreads
Gosh how I missed this series! And now it’s going on hiatus! *sobs* Who knows when the next book will be out, but I really enjoyed this one! Poor Warlock is doing his best to keep his friend safe, and Watson is having none of it (rightly so) as they become more and more entangled in all sorts of magical happenings. I laughed so hard throughout this book, the same as the first four, and I enjoyed it so much! The antics are every bit as outrageous as you might expect.

Sherlock Holmes and the Beast of the Stapletons

Sherlock Holmes and the Beast of the Stapletons by James Lovegrove
Status: 110/396 pages

1894. The monstrous Hound of the Baskervilles has been dead for five years, along with its no less monstrous owner, the naturalist Jack Stapleton. Sir Henry Baskerville is living contentedly at Baskerville Hall with his new wife Audrey and their three-year-old son Harry.

Until, that is, Audrey’s lifeless body is found on the moors, drained of blood. It would appear some fiendish creature is once more at large on Dartmoor and has, like its predecessor, targeted the unfortunate Baskerville family.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are summoned to Sir Henry’s aid, and our heroes must face a marauding beast that is the very stuff of nightmares. It seems that Stapleton may not have perished in the Great Grimpen Mire after all, as Holmes believed, and is hell-bent on revenge…

Okay, I’m not gonna lie … it’s been so long that I barely remember what happened in the original Hound of the Baskerville that this is a spinoff sequel to. Thankfully, this book does a really good job of recounting the events of the first book, so I didn’t have any trouble diving in and going along with it. The summary actually jogged my memory pretty nicely, too, and I was remembering more about it than what was mentioned, so there’s that. So far, I would say that reading the first one isn’t even required to read this one.

Lovegrove does a really good job of emulating Doyle’s writing style … which is to say that I remember how much of an effort it is sometimes to read his work. xD I love it, but man can it get wordy. Lovegrove is more of an in between, where it’s not as wordy as Doyle, so it’s not as much of a dry read, but it still elicits the same feel.

I’m very caught up in the mystery, though, and I’m looking forward to finding out what happens! I’m thoroughly stumped right now.

    Spellbreaker     The Cousins     Seven Devils

I’m totally throwing things around, because I have no idea what I want to read and when, okay?! I’m just so darn indecisive right now. So I’m just going to leave it at the upcoming blog tours I need to read.

I’ve got Spellbreaker coming up, which I’m really looking forward to. I already read the first chapter and loved it! I read The Will and the Wilds by the same author earlier this year and really enjoyed it, so I couldn’t wait to check out her new series!

I’ve also got a blog tour coming up for TheWriteReads for a Karen McManus book, who I’ve never read but have heard endless good things about! So I’m really looking forward to picking up The Cousins, and I’ve already heard people talking about how good it is!

My hold from the library also came through on Seven Devils, and I already let it pass once. I really don’t want to go back to the end of the line and wait for it to come through again, so I’m probably going to try to squeeze it in. Besides, I peeked at the beginning and absolutely love it already, so yeah. It’s happening.

  1. I have a couple books that have put me at the end of the line a couple times lately too. No matter what it feels like they always come in at the same time – it’s a bit hard to plan them! I hope you enjoy Seven Devils!
