Welcooooome to 2021!!! 2020, you can just go ahead and see yourself out. Don’t let the door hit you on the way, thanks. Byeeeee.
I think we can all agree that 2020 was a freaking decade. I’m not going to say that 2021 kicked it off on an entirely positive note, but you know what? It’s at least looking up, and at this point, I’ll take it! The bar for this year is ridiculously low. I mean, you could just … accidentally trip over it and succeed, that’s how low it is.
So here’s to hoping that 2021 is everything the year 2020 wasn’t. Shall we look at some of what’s gone on already?
- January was my three-year blogiversary! It’s hard to believe it’s been three years already. I actually did a blog post about why I started blogging and why I still blog. The short answer, of course, is you people. Gosh would this blogging thing be dull without you all. You make it more than worth it! Here’s to hoping I’ll be around for many more!
- The library has continued to … library? For Christmas, we got our Director a keychain that says, “Being a boss is easy. It’s like riding a bike. Except the bike is on fire and you are on fire and everything is on fire and you’re in hell.” Welp, my Director pulled out her purse and flashed that to me last week … before telling me all the fun things that we need to do in the coming week or two because everything goes wonky all at once. Huzzah! xD One may not associate working in a library as being a particularly busy job, but let me tell you. Phew. I’m tired just thinking about this week. One day I will write a post about all the things I’ve done as a Circulation Assistant that I never imagined I’d be doing!
- I started grad school! It’s going well so far. You know, a whole week in. I’ve tempered my expectations to have lost all sense of sanity in a couple of months, so I’m obviously approaching this realistically, right?! So far it’s been a lot of reading about subjects I honestly couldn’t care less about, so that’s fun. I am taking a Digital Librarianship class, though, and that’s the class I’m most excited about this semester, as we’re looking at digitizing our genealogy and I’m thinking it’ll really help our library going forward!
- If I’m not around a whole lot in the coming months … see points two and three. I’m sure people have noticed I’m not blog hopping like I used to, but all things considered, I think I’ve been doing pretty good about scheduling my time and still getting time to visit other blogs in (because honestly, I love this community and don’t want to give that up!). Who knows what the future will hold when I hit certain weeks where I have multiple projects due, though. It may not be sustainable in the long run. Who knows? Please be patient with me if I vanish for a little while!
- You might be getting tired of hearing updates about this already, but my final edits on my book are done. This is probably much more exciting for me than you, because yaaaay, I don’t have much to do for a little while except wait for formatting and cover art! Given my proclivity for laziness, I see this as a win. If you’re curious about this here bundle of words that spilled out of my brain, lovingly called a book, I actually made a page specifically for my books. It’s also called My Books, so, you know, that’s handy. There’s not much there yet other than the title and blurb, but I will for sure keep you all updated as I have more news to share!
Now that we’ve got all that out there, let’s get to the books!

This won the poll, so here it is. Time for me to get my feels crushed, or so I’ve heard. This thread will be SPOILER FREE but will have my reactions as I read.
So strap in. Let’s get started. 📖

Spoiler alert: they’re probably gloriously sarcastic and/or stabby, but hey, sarcastic, stabby people deserve love, too.

Shiny “your books” page! Whee!
I hope grad school goes well, and that you find a good balance. Because while I would also hate to lose touch with blog friends, sometimes other aspects of life have to take priority.

I know exactly what you mean about being busy at work at the library – so many don’t believe just how slammed it can get! Also that keychain sounds like an excellent gift!
