It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
What if your father died and left you a mess?
Would you try to pay back his debts?
Would you try to save the circus he loved?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

Death Warden White Trash Warlock Bad Habits

Death Warden by C.J. Stilling
★★★★ || Goodreads
OMG, you guys, this book was *chef’s kiss* It took a little while for me to really get into it, especially since it’s got a jumpy timeline, which is sometimes hard for me to follow. By 25% in, though, I got the timeline down and I was into it. Phew. There were several times that I tried to put it down and had to pick it up again. It’s dark and stabby, but also beautiful and uplifting, with found family and an adorable romance. It’s also on Kindle Unlimited, so if you’ve got that, I can’t recommend this book enough! I loved it so much that I plan on checking out Stilling’s other books now for sure.

White Trash Warlock by David R. Slayton (Review will be posted 2/4)

If you like Supernatural, you will enjoy this book! It’s got the same dark world filled with supernatural creatures . . . minus the brotherly love, of course. Adam is such a relatable character! He’s insecure and had a difficult past (and present, if we’re honest), but he tries to do what’s right all the same. There was mystery and action and even a super cute M/M romance that I’m definitely here for. I can’t wait for the next book already!

Bad Habits by Flynn Meaney (Review will be posted 2/8)

Okay, listen. I didn’t think I was going to like this one. I immediately run screaming these days when something is labeled as feminist, because I’ve been burned enough to know that it doesn’t work for me. You know what, though? I’ve learned to trust TheWriteReads process, and it did not let me down. This book was freaking amazing. I laughed so hard through most of it, but there was still plenty of room for character growth.

Calico Thunder Rides Again

Calico Thunder Rides Again by T. A. Hernandez

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the Most Fantastic Show on Earth…

Three years ago, the Ban changed everything, outlawing certain forms of magic and bringing about the rise of powerful crime syndicates. Now, speakeasies in every city sell illegal charms and jinxes, and bootleggers traffic restricted potion ingredients across the country. But even in this changing world, the magic of the circus still acts as a wondrous escape and provides entertainment for all.

Jake Strickland owns one such circus, inherited after an accident ended his career as a rodeo dragon rider. He also inherited the circus’ financial troubles, but since the show became his, he’s slowly managed to turn it into a profitable business once more. Or at least, that’s what he thought.

When a dangerous mobster comes to collect an old debt, Jake resorts to desperate measures to get the money before a strict deadline. With lives and livelihoods at stake, he battles the clock, his responsibilities to the circus, and a longstanding personal grudge that has festered for years. Can he pay back the mob before it’s too late?

I was kind of expecting more action in this book, but it seems much more character driven. It’s interesting in that sense, though, because I’m curious to see how poor Jake is going to dig himself out of this hole. I also love seeing the various elements of this fantasy circus! An illusionist with real magic, griffins, a basilisk, a DRAGON. I want a little more world-building out of this book, but I’m still crossing my fingers that we might get it at some point.

Ashlords     Blood Sworn     Aether Ones

Not a whole lot of change this week on upcoming reads somehow, which is a bummer. I thought I’d get farther, but then again, I also spent foreverrrr on grad school reading. Ugh. Who thought this was a good idea, again?!

So yes, Ashlords and Blood Sworn are still my next reads, which I’m really looking forward to! I actually read the first chapter of Ashlords as a little teaser and was really interested, but I’m bribing myself to finish my current read before picking it up so I don’t have 20 million reads going on at once … again.

Then, after that, I need to pick up Aether Ones, which sounds like it’s going to be a really fun urban fantasy! I’ve been in the mood of urban fantasy lately, so I’m eager to pick this one up!

Ooh, I’m even more excited to pick up Bad Habits now seeing as you’ve rated it so highly 😍 I think I’m leaning towards finding a more humorous read next so I think that’s gonna be the one for me! I also have to read Aether Ones and I’m quite excited. TheWriteReads tours have really been slaying it with the books so far this year! 🥰 I also can’t wait to get to our buddy read week after next!
