SeaMAYden-athon TBR || Let’s get FISHY

Posted April 26, 2020 by Sammie in book list, chat with me, readathon, reading challenge, TBR / 15 Comments

Wait. Do mermaids count as fish? Hmm. Oh well. I’m going with it.

Look, I was obviously going to do this readathon, to support the two fabulous women who created it, Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads and Mir @ FangirlPixieBlog. Lucky for me, this also sounds like a heck of a lot of fun, so that’s just two wins as far as I’m concerned.

So what is the SeaMAYden-athon? Click the links above to find out more, but essentially, it’s a team-based readathon with a mermaid theme, and there’s even a prize for the person who reads the most pages.

So really, what I’m saying is there’s no reason not to sign up, and you obviously should. So without any further ado, let’s talk about the books that I have all the good intentions of reading. I mean, these could change at any point. It just really depends. I’m such a fickle mood reader. I apologize in advance.

Mermaid Kisses, Starfish Wishes

A book with a sapphic romance

Elysium Girls

*flails* I SHOULD BE GETTING THIS SOON. I’m getting my very first book box, and this was the book for it, and AHHHHH. I’m not ready. No, wait, I’m totally ready. I want to love this book so much that I might have a mini meltdown when it arrives before I pick it up, because what if I hate it? Pfft, I’m silly, I know, but yes, this is sapphic, and gosh, I’ll admit that this prompt was hard. I have, like, six or seven M/M reads coming up (and heck, one read with a transgender protagonist), but I panicked for a minute wondering where all my F/F reads were? (The answer, as it turns out, is the END of this year, for whatever reason).

Shipwreck

Read a dystopia.

Chosen Ones (The Chosen Ones, #1)

I’m actually late reading this one (oops), but it was one I was really looking forward to! Everything about it sounds absolutely fantastic, and I’ve really been loving my dystopian reads lately, so I can’t wait to dig into this one.

Siren’s Call

Read a book out loud (at least a chapter)

What We Found in the Corn Maze and How It Saved a Dragon

I will be trying to convince Minion to read this with me, so … wish me luck! I doubt she’ll read the entire thing with me, because she’s like that, but maybe if i can hook her in the beginning, she’ll give it a go. It’s always 50/50 with her. She’s super picky with what books she reads and enjoys, and I can’t imagine who the heck she gets that from. Her father, obviously. We’re going to blame her father.

We Mermaid to be Friends

Read a book recommended by a friend

Rogue Protocol (The Murderbot Diaries, #3)

I’ve actually had The Murderbot Diaries recommended by several friends, so this should count many times over. xD I’m a little ashamed that it’s taken me this long to get to them, because I absolutely LOVE them. Honestly, what’s not to love about Murderbot? Everything from its name to its personality is briliant.

Beach, please!

Read a summer beach read

My Lady Jane (The Lady Janies, #1)

Confession, I have no idea what constitutes a summer beach read. I always saw it as some light, quick reading that you could do by the water that would be enjoyable but not too deep, and from all accounts I’ve heard, that’s what I imagine this book is. I would love to be at a beach somewhere with it right now, in fact. I think this’ll be a light, fun read, but I don’t expect anything particularly deep from it.

Release the Kraken

Read an intimidating book you’ve been putting off

The Faith Machine

I received this from the author, and he comped it to a book I loved, and this book just sounds fabulous. So much so that there’s all this pressure to love it, and wow, stress. In a good way. But I’ve still been avoiding it just a teensy bit, because I’m weird and tend to panic if I want to love a book too much.

I Got Whosits & Whatsits Galore

Read a book that has been on your TBR forever

The Tiger at Midnight (The Tiger at Midnight Trilogy, #1)

Why I haven’t picked this up already, I have no idea. I was so excited for it before it even came out, and I still keep seeing it all over, but I just … never read it? I don’t know if a little over a year counts as forever (longer if we include the pre-release hype that had me wanting to read it), but it sure feels like this has been on my TBR forever. Especially since y’all keep reminding me that I haven’t read it yet!

Heart Divider

Under the Sea

Read a book with a magical kingdom

Night of the Dragon (Shadow of the Fox, #3)

I see your one magical kingdom and raise you all the magical kingdoms. Just … different sorts of magic. Plus, a demon kingdom, too! See? I’ve clearly gone above and beyond with this one. This is a book I’ve been really looking forward to, so I’m not sure why it’s taking me so long to pick it up, except that it’s going to destroy my feels and also the series is done after this and I’m not ready for that. Okay, so I have some reasons. Maybe not good reasons, but reasons nonetheless.

Find Your Voice

Read an #ownvoice book

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

I live in this weird intersection of identities where I don’t feel #ownvoice about many things, honestly. What it boils down to is characters that I could see myself as, and Eliza nails that with amazing precision. This will be a reread for me. I read it two weeks after my grandmother died, and at that moment, I basically was Eliza, except much older and without the amazing support system she had.

Sea Salt

Read a real tearjerker

The Big Finish

I’m not technically sure that this one is a tearjerker, but I’d be rather surprised if it wasn’t. The formula is extremely familiar and feels like other books that have been tearjerkers, so I’m going in expecting the waterworks at some point, at least. It’s bound to happen.

And the team I’ve chosen is …

TEAM YETU!

Which means that I’ll be trying to read The Deep next month, which suits me just fine, because I’ve been wanting to read it anyway. I’ve actually been waiting and crossing my fingers, hoping that my hold for the audiobook would come in next month. I don’t normally do audiobooks, but Daveed Diggs is the narrator, and I am all sorts of eager for that, so I’m willing to give it a try.

  1. Omg, this sounds so fun; I’m gonna have to seriously consider joining! I wanna do ALL the reading in May and joining a mermaid-themed readathon seems so cool and just what I need to get back into the groove of reading. Oooh, sounds like it would mean I would need to actually make a Twitter tho, hmm…

Hope ya enjoy these books and get a lot of reading done! My Lady Jane is such a hoot and I really hope ya love it 🙂

  2. Ok over achiever. I need to pow-wow with Leelynn because apparently I hav NO idea how to do one of these here read-a-thons. So I didn’t know there was an announcement post! Ok gonna check in and then use yours as a guide because it is brilliant

    • Bwahaha, so not overachieving! We’ll see if I finish these prompts. xD A TBR is all well and good, but it’s not exactly the same as actually reading the books, is it? lol.

An announcement post isn’t necessary. It’s really up to the person participating whether they want to do one or not.

  3. Omg! Daveed Diggs narrates The Deep?! I have the e-book but I might just have to get the audiobook now 😀 I was planning to join the All the Stars and Teeth group… But now I’m not sure what to do! Haha can Diggs influence my decision this much?! 🤣 Honestly though, I think I might just read all the books since I’ve been wanting to anyway. Yay for this exciting readathon! Hopefully I’ll do much better on it than my O.W.L.s… Which has landed in the territory of things to never speak of again (after this month). Good luck, Sammie 😀

    • Yeeees. It’s totally worth it just for him. xD And yes, Daveed Diggs can influence all the decisions because … well, because he is who he is. Duh.

    • Thanks! I’m still crossing my fingers. It looks like I’m scheduled to get it next month, so here’s to hoping. 😀

Bwahaha, I need all the nudges. Yes, I will for sure be reading that soon lol. For some reason, the one I got from my library won’t go through Kindle, so I have to read it on the computer, which is a major hassle, but ah well.
