Fantasy Characters I’d Invite to My Birthday Party (Ft. Much Drinking, Mayhem, and Probably Fire)

Posted May 5, 2020 by Sammie in chat with me, fantasy, top ten tuesdays, Wyrd & Wonder / 45 Comments

In keeping with Wyrd & Wonder, I did warn you that there would be lots of fantasy posts this month, right?

Which, honestly, isn’t abnormal around here to start with, but I’m definitely going to milk it for all its worth. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve never really been a party girl. They’re loud and full of people and I’d rather not. You can’t even, like, stab people or sacrifice the annoying ones or raise the dead or anything, and how boring is that?

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is things I’d have at my bookish party.

And okay, let’s be honest, any party I’m having would be bookish. Duh. But the next party I have will be my birthday (in September), when I’m turning the big 3-0! That’s clearly an important level, and as such, I expect a lot of rewards for leveling up.

If these folks weren’t so darn fictional, they’d all be invited, naturally. So here’s a who’s who list of fantasy characters I’d make sure were on the guest list.

Lightsong the Bold

Warbreaker

Obviously. I mean, come on. Is it even a party if Lightsong the Bold doesn’t make an appearance? First of all, I’m sure he’s sufficiently swoonworthy, and everyone on this list will appreciate a little eye candy, and Lightsong will be more than happy to oblige. (Oh, no, what ever will I do with all these people fawning over him and giving him attention?! said Lightsong never.) But other than that, he’s just hella freaking fun. I see drunk karaoke in someone’s future!

Arthur and Linus

The House in the Cerulean Sea

My whole crew can’t be all murder demons hellbent on destroying the world and/or others. I’ve thought about it … for quite a while … but no. There have to be at least two somewhat “normal” people to talk to. The sort where we can have lovely, quiet bookish conversation when everyone else becomes too much. I would’ve added the kids from the island to this … but I’m not sure my party could handle all that. Especially given the other big personalities on this list.

Heart Divider

Hark

Deeplight

What’s a party without a storyteller? Hark would be able to tell the best stories about gods and the terror of the Undersea and secrets and all sorts of dark, juicy things. Plus, you know, all his fun exploits and whatnot. For bonus points, he can bring Selphin, for a bit of extra fun. Though … I don’t think she’s allowed to drink. I’d be too scared to have her let her inhibitions down.

Heart Divider

Serefin

Ruthless Gods

Ahhh the drama murder king. My future spouse, who will rule the blood kingdom with me, and we can keep our separate significant others as consorts and it’ll be all scandalous and thrilling. But for now, he can attend my party with his guards, and he’ll drink too much and run his mouth and probably start a fight with someone and it’ll all be lovely fun for all the bystanders.

Heart Divider

Tal

The Unspoken Name

The life of every party. It really wouldn’t be a party without his smart mouth, sarcasm, and wild antics. I would for sure have to watch him around Serefin. In fact, the world might even be in danger if they hook up, because I’m convinced that they would make the perfect deadly pair.

Heart Divider

Qifrey

Witch Hat Atelier

It would be a huge disservice to Qifrey to say that he could provide entertainment at the party, even though he is a magician and could probably come up with some pretty splendid tricks. More than that, I mean, he’s quite handsome and suave, isn’t he? He’s adorable and would clearly be fun to hang out with.

Heart Divider

AIDAN

Illuminae

I’m not sure how this is going to work. It’d be rude to contain AIDAN to something as small as a tablet. Yet … I’m not sure I’m ready to unleash him over the interwebs, either. I’ve thought about it, but … no. You’re all welcome. I’m sure we could rig up some sort of closed circuit system, connected to speakers, and he can DJ. After we give him many, many, MANY playlists to study ahead of time and understand the complexities of party music, thanks.

Gideon Nav

Gideon the Ninth

I would literally invite Gideon to anything and everything. Wedding? Sure. Black’s a good color for weddings, so long as there’s alcohol. Barbecues? Of course. Just don’t let her have any fire. Funerals? Eh, why not. Person’s dead anyway, and hey, if she brings Harrow, we can really have fun with it. No? Too much? Pffft, fine. Buzzkills. Point is, she would clearly be fun to have at a party.

Heart Divider

Crowley and Aziraphale

Good Omens

I mean … really. Is there anything I need to say on this one? Crowley should be a given at any party to liven things up, and goodness knows wherever he goes, Aziraphale should follow. I don’t make the rules. That’s just how this works.

Heart Divider

Teagan Frost

The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind

I get the impression that Teagan and Gideon would be fast friends. I should … probably watch that, in case they destroy … well, the neighborhood. Teagan just seems like she’d be fun to hang out with. Plus, she’s got the whole move-things-with-her-mind thing going on, which is pretty cool, and I’m sure we can have fun with that, especially with this lot.

    • Hmm. You know, now that you put it that way, I feel like I’m going to need aaaall the insurance policies for this party. xD

    • What?! You need to think about it? I just took it as a given that of course you’d be there. Would it help if I provide tactical body armor for you, just in case? xD

    • Deal! I’m feeling like I should be providing body protection for all the non-fictional guests, though, just in case. xD Also, I feel like you’d have gotten off lucky if all you get is a jaw wired shut as your only injury in this instance.

  1. I LOVE this idea especially during a time of social distancing! Have you read A Darker Shade Of Magic? I think I’d invite most of the characters to my party! But first I’m going to yours😃

    • Oh my gosh, I haven’t. I really need to. I’ve heard that I’m going to love the characters! I’ve read Vicious, which I loved (though, I’m not so sure I want to invite Victor to a party, especially considering all the other people I’m inviting lol) so I’m looking forward to getting a chance to read A Darker Shade of Magic, too.

You’re always invited, for sure. Just … umm … maybe bring a helmet? And body armor, yeah? xD

    • Wow, you slacker. You need to get reading lol.

Obviously you’re invited, as long as you realize that you take your life in your hands by accepting this invitation. I can’t be held responsible for any harm that may befall you, bodily or otherwise. xD

    • Challenge accepted! Aaall the fantasy posts now. xD I mean, honestly, *most* of my posts have some sort of fantasy bent, but I love that this month it’s like express written permission to go as all-out fantasy as you’d like haha.

    • Maybe you just read different fantasy. xD I tend to read a lot of dark fantasy. So honestly, this party is probably a devastating disaster waiting to happen. But hey, what fun is a party without at least a little danger?

Oh, gosh, the power. THE POWER! One book, huh? It’s so hard to say without knowing what you read. I see Nora Roberts is one of your favorite authors. Have you tried her fantasy?

As for my one recommendation, if you don’t mind M/M romance, I’d highly recommend The House in the Cerulean Sea! It’s fantasy romance, but it’s a slow burn, very sweet (clean) romance with characters that it’s hard not to love and a lot of moments that’ll make you laugh! Plus, the voice just makes it a really fun read.

    • I mean, I’ll make sure to have enough fire extinguishers on hand to put out a hefty brushfire, just in case. xD Does that help any? LOL.

    • It was, wasn’t it?! I had fun with it. You can have an invite AND a plus one, just in case you have someone fun to add to the fray. 😉 Enter at your own risk, though lol.

    • Heck yes. Exciting and dangerous is the perfect combination of all these characters. xD Party at your own risk. LOL.

  2. I am worried about your decision to let AIDAN anywhere near your house. What if he decides that your dog might kill you in your sleep and electrecutes everybody in the room just to be safe? Also, when Crowley is there then all the music will be changed to Queen anyway. lol
I don’t really know any of the other characters but I hope the party will be a success and that nobody will burn your house down. 😉

    • Whaaaat? Why would you worry? It’ll be fine. I’m sure it’ll be fine. And you know, if a couple people have to be sacrificed for us to hang out with AIDAN, it’s a sacrifice worth making. TO BE FAIR … I support AIDAN’s decisions in the book. xD So I’d probably give him the benefit of the doubt.

Queen is perfect for a party, though, so I suppose that’s fine. I should, um, up my insurance just in case, though, probably, shouldn’t I? xD

    • Okay, listen. I don’t know how big you think my yard is, but it is nowhere near big enough to house a dragon AND everyone else. And the fire thing in the title? It’s hypothetical. Probably, someone will set something on fire. A dragon would *guarantee* someone or something is being set on fire. Dragons would be invited, but to a completely different kind of party. One with less liabilities all in one place. xD

    • Great, disastrous … it’s all the same, right? xD It’s all fun and games until someone threatens to destroy the world.

    • Ah, he really is, isn’t he? It’s part of his charm. Also, I’m not sure how, but I just *know* that within thirty minutes of the party starting, he’d somehow have all the gossip on everyone there, so he’d make a fun gossip companion, for sure.

    • Oh my gosh yeeees! This would be fantastic. Heeey, Aziraphale and Qifrey could totally have a competition, with Aziraphale getting more and more flustered until eventually Crowley has to step in to defend the poor angel’s honor, I’m sure. xD What could possibly go wrong?

  3. This sounds like a really fun party! And happy birthday for September! 30 is definitely an exciting one! It’s my next big birthday too but not for a couple of years! Great list! 💜🥳

    • I mean … even if they did … no one was killed or severely hurt, so I consider that a win? And it looked like everyone had fun. So I’m sure it’d be fiiiine.
