2020 Book Blogger Awards Nominations

Posted July 5, 2020 by Sammie in Uncategorized / 17 Comments

It’s time again for the Book Blogger Awards, where we get to celebrate some of the fabulous voices in our little community of bookwyrms.

Honestly, I feel like everyone should be impressed that we took all the time away from reading Twitter books and weeping in the corner to even notice that other bloggers exist. Look at us being all worldly and collegiate!

I’ve had the honor of meeting some of the most fabulous people in the two years I’ve been blogging, so the message I really want to send with this post is that even if none of these people win, you should go follow them anyway.

They’re all absolutely lovely, and my life (bookish and otherwise) is fuller because of them.

So many thanks, also, to the wonderful co-hosts this year, May @ Forever and Everly and Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books.

Best Adult Blogger

Imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More

What can I even say about Imyril? Co-host of #WyrdAndWonder, which I participated in for the first time this year and had so much fun with. Imyril’s book reviews are *chef’s kiss*, and I always feel like running off and reading the book after reading one of them, even if it’s a book I wouldn’t normally pick up.

Best YA Blogger

Dani @ Literary Lion

Dani reviews some of the best YA books. My TBR weeps every time I visit their site. I can hear the poor thing even now. The books are also a nice mix of YA and manga, which I appreciate (because gosh am I out of the manga scene and always need recommendations). Dani is also a co-host of Let’s Talk Bookish, which touches on a lot of important bookish discussions, and their discussions on the topics are always on point.

Best Middle Grade Blogger

Lilyfae @ Lily and the Fae

At this point, Lilyfae is pretty much my dealer, okay? She feeds most of my MG addiction, and I know that any time I visit her site, I’m for sure going to add books to my poor TBR. Pretty sure this should count as abuse. It’s also super unique and fun because her own children are also early and middle grade readers, so it’s nice to get the perspective of the target audience!

Best Romance Blogger

Dedra @ A Book Wanderer

I confess that I don’t read … well, any romance really, so it may seem weird that I follow romance bloggers, and okay, maybe it is, but when you’ve got it, you’ve got it, regardless of what you read. Dedra is a delight to follow, and her reviews are concise, easy to read, give me a great sense of the book, and, most importantly, spoiler free! So no worries of ruining anything.

Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Blogger

Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy

Oh gosh, I cringe every time I open Tammy’s site, because I will 100% leave with at least one more book on my TBR. She’s probably person of interest numero uno when my TBR rises up to take revenge. All of her posts are a delight to read, and her reviews are always so thorough and leave me wanting to pick up books right away.

Best Mystery/Thriller Blogger

Susan @ Novel Lives

At this point, Susan almost single-handedly is responsible for all these mystery/thriller books on my list. She’s my go-to on that front. Her reviews are fun to read (and often include either cats or Avengers and who can resist that). They’re very casual and feel like a friend telling you about a book they read, which makes it a fun tone to read!

Best Book Reviews

Dini @ DiniPandaReads

Dini is an adorable little panda who reads all the best books, and her reviews are so solid. They’re fun to read, but also really easy to skim, which I appreciate, because sometimes, going in, I’m not sure whether I’m even interested in a review of a certain book, so skimming these helps me decide if I want to read the review closer. I always feel like I can make a solid decision once I’ve read one of her reviews, and that’s without spoilers, which is even more impressive. I know this nomination is about reviews, but her other posts are also *chef’s kiss*.

Best Book Recommendations

Annemieke @ A Dance With Books

I mean, right off the bat, she’s a big fan of Terry Pratchett and dragons, so obviously, she’s got good taste. Hard to go wrong there. If I see a book highly rated there, I know I’m going to enjoy reading it. She’s never led me astray, and I’ve purchased plenty of books solely off her recommendation. Also has nothing to do with this nomination, but she has the cutest photos of her journals on her Instagram, so not only do I get to drool over all her recommendations, but over her gorgeous journal pages, too!

Best Discussion Posts

Briana & Krysta @ Pages Unbound

This is my go-to spot for discussions still, because I know they’re always top-notch and really give me some food for thought. The discussions Briana and Krysta come up with are always ones that make me go, “Huh. I never thought about that, but yeah, that’s super important,” and I love that they make me think about things that I normally may not have. Also not about this particular nomination, but Krysta and Briana also have super thorough reviews, which are a pleasure to read, they talk a lot about Tolkien, and their blogger resources are super helpful and have taught me so many things on this journey.

Best Blogging/Writing Voice

Lin @ The Reader of a Thousand Stars

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love Lin’s voice. It’s a little fun, a little randomness, and a lot of chaos, which is obviously the best way to write posts. Pretty sure that’s a thing. I’m always excited to see when there’s a new post on their blog, because I know it’s going to make me laugh and brighten my day. Lin’s tone is super casual and like two people sitting there fangirling together and having a conversation about books, which I absolutely love.

Best at Promoting Diverse Books

Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads

If I ever want to diversify my reading, I always know Leelynn’s got my back. Her reading list is sooo diverse, which is extremely impressive to me, and it’s diverse in so many ways. She’s not just reading Black novels, which would be #ownvoices for her, but so many different cultures and LGBTQ+ and just so many books I wouldn’t have necessarily seen otherwise. Leelynn is also recently a co-founder of Hear Our Voices, a book tour company whose mission is to get books into the hands of #ownvoices readers.

Most Supportive

Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight

Shannon feels like she has her hands in a little bit of everything in the book community, and she’s always been so approachable and helpful. Her round-up posts with links are always fun to read and explore all the posts she highlights. Shannon is also co-host of the monthly book giveaway hop, co-host of the discussion challenge, and talks a lot about The 100.

Most Engaged in the Community

Evelyn @ Evelyn Reads

Evelyn is literally everywhere, and I’m not sure how she does it, but I suspect either clones or dark magic is involved. Maybe even both. Who knows? I always see her around commenting on posts, and she participates in so many weekly memes. I’m always amazed by everything she does!

Most Creative

CW and Skye @ The Quiet Pond

When I think creative, I definitely think CW and Skye! Their blog is not only pretty, but I’m always astounded by the things they come up with for their posts! Earlier this year, I participated in the Pondathon readathon, which was super freaking creative and also a lot of fun. But just blogwise, the guest posts CW hosts, the discussions they have, and everything about it, really, is just so unique. I absolutely love the little mascots The Quiet Pond has, like Xiaolong, and I love the little stories revolvinga round them.

Best Social Media Influencer

Melanie @ TBR and Beyond

TBR and Beyond is not only a fabulous blog (which you should totally follow), but they also have a large Facebook group, where you can talk about all things bookish, and I love the atmosphere there. Kudos to Melanie’s co-mods on there, who do a fabulous job, as well. Melanie is also everywhere on Twitter, and I see her interacting so much with the bookish community.

Best New Book Blogger

Bri @ Books and Shadows

Bri has a super fun personality, and her posts are fabulous! She sure has it way more figured out than I did when I first started blogging and ended up basically flailing around without a clue. Her reviews are so thorough and fun to read, and I always enjoy visiting her blog!

Alex @ Spells and Spaceships

When I first stumbled across Alex’s blog, I had no idea that they were a new blogger! What is it with all these new bloggers having it more together than I do? I think that means I need to stop being such a hot mess haha. Alex’s blog is so well put together. Their discussions are absolutely on point, their reviews are wonderful, and their passion about sci-fi/fantasy just leaps off the page. Alex is also super active on Twitter in the bookish community, and their pinned post is a SFF world tour, which I highly recommend checking out because it’s fabulous.

  2. Thank you soooo much Sammie – you are the very sweetest. The idea of me being a social media influencer is insane to me but I appreciate the nomination. You are the best.

    • Well, you certainly are to me, anyway. xD Even funnier … my assistant director at the library was telling me today about something I actually saw in TBR and Beyond last week, so I beat her to the punch before she could finish, and I loved it. xD

    • We should riot! Just remember, when the TBRs rise up and go after us, we can send them Tammy’s way, because it’s clearly all her fault. xD

    • Thank you so much for co-hosting them. <3 I think it's an absolutely fantastic thing that y'all are doing, and I'm so proud to be part of this community!
