It’s time again to ask ourselves the three W’s:
What would you do if you thought an angel was following you?
Would you seek professional help?
Or would you help him save his world?

Wait, no, that’s not right. We ask these three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

The Time of Green Magic by Hilary McKay

This book was so stinking adorable! These kids! My heart! Ugh. I want more stories with blended families, please. While there’s a fun little mystery in this book and some charming magical realism, what really stole my heart here was the children. Having your parents remarry and suddenly finding yourself with a new family, including (a) new sibling(s) is hard. I really enjoyed seeing them come together and learn how to be a family.

Cemetery Boys by Aidan Thomas (review will be posted 8/23)

My full review will be upcoming for the blog tour. I absolutely loved this book, though, and everyone should go read it immediately, please and thank you. The mystery of what’s going on with Yadriel’s cousin death grabbed my attention immediately. What really surprised me, though, is how much I was here for the slow burn M/M romance, especially given that romance tends not to be my thing. But ugh, it was soooo stinking sweet, and these boys are just too precious. Plus, the rep! Yadriel, the protagonist, is trans, and there are queer characters, vegan characters, lots of Latinx rep.

Okay, listen, I have no idea what took me so freaking long to read this, especially given how often Susan @ Novel Lives told me I needed to … but man was she right. I absolutely loved this book and tore through it quickly, because I just had to know what happened. This world is just *chef’s kiss*. The struggle the Crows go through is harrowing and maddening, but one that was so easy to root for. As frustrating as Jasimir and Tavin were in the beginning, one, I completely fell in love with Tavin early on, but two, I loved the change in Jasimir. I can’t wait to see what befalls these heroes in the next book.

Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron

This book, guys! I would highly recommend it to middle grade lovers and readers. It’s very similar to the Rick Riordan Presents books, but it features Orisha. Not in a figurative sense, but as actual characters, and oh my gosh, how to even tell you how much I love this?! I’ve loved the Orisha for a long time, and I’m so happy to start seeing them as characters in books and getting more attention. I have an interview with this author upcoming next month for the release of this book, and I’m so excited! This was such a fun adventure, with some strong friendship bonds, and I can’t wait for book two! The Orisha characters have some fabulous magic displayed in this book, and some of the stories and lore is woven into the story in a way that’s easy to follow and understand. Plus, there’s all sorts of really neat creatures!

This week has been absolutely crazy, between the two jobs and getting ready to apply to go to graduate school, so I didn’t make any progress on Mistborn and we were only able to read one more chapter of The Birth of Agent Big Butt. Still plugging away with those, even though it’s slow going (though I did inform Minion that if she doesn’t pick up the pace with it, I’ll have to read it without her, so hopefully progress should increase this week either way!).

The Third Sun

The Third Sun by Victoria J. Price
Status: 11%

The sun is dying, the windows to Earth are closing. Time is running out.

After the death of her sister, eighteen-year-old Fia Aldridge knows one thing for certain: she doesn’t belong anywhere. But then she tumbles into the parallel world of Ohinyan—a world where angels and witches walk amongst mankind.

An ancient darkness is taking advantage of the dying sun, and Ohinyan needs Fia’s help. She soon learns that her arrival is not entirely by accident and that Alexander, leader of angels, is not the guardian she thought he was.

Torn between their feelings and their duties, together they must find a way to return Fia to London before the darkness consumes her and she is trapped in Ohinyan forever.

A richly woven tale drawing on ancient myths and legends. Fans of elemental magic, witches, shapeshifters and portal fantasy will devour the Third Sun: Daughter of the Phoenix Book One.

I’ve got a blog tour for book two of this series, The Eternal Dusk, coming up, so I’m getting a jump on reading the first book, like you do. This one immediately caught my attention because of angels and other worlds in peril, which sounds like fun times. Not a whole lot has happened yet, but I’ve met an angel and some witches and am just getting my first glimpse at Ohinyon, so I’m excited to see more of it.

The Faithless Hawk

The Faithless Hawk by Margaret Owen
Status: pg 16/385

As the new chieftain of the Crows, Fie knows better than to expect a royal to keep his word. Still she?s hopeful that Prince Jasimir will fulfill his oath to protect her fellow Crows. But then black smoke fills the sky, signaling the death of King Surimir and the beginning of Queen Rhusana’s ruthless bid for the throne.

Queen Rhusana wins popular support by waging a brutal campaign against the Crows, blaming them for the poisonous plague that wracks the nation.

A desperate Fie clings onto a prophecy that a long-forgotten god will return and provide a cure to the plague. Fie must team up with old friends? and an old flame? to track down a dead god and save her people.

I actually only just started this (as you can see), so I really don’t have much to say about it. I did love the way this opening mirrored the opening for The Merciful Crow, but with a slight turn. Fie really came into her own in the first book, and it’s fantastic seeing her as the chief in this and already growing into her role. I loved the first so much that I can’t wait to dive deeper into this book, since big stuff is already happening!

The Eternal Dusk     The Ruin of Kings     The Name of All Things

Once I finish The Third Sun, I’ll be picking up the sequel, The Eternal Dusk, and I’m looking forward to it already. There’s two angels on the cover, so … more angels in this one? I have no idea, but I’m curious to find out!

Next, I’ll be picking up the A Chorus of Dragons series, which I hope will have dragons? Starting with The Ruin of Kings and then continuing on with The Name of All Things, since I’m on a Memory of Souls blog tour in early September. I already started a couple chapters of The Ruin of Kings, and I immediately fell in love with the world, so I can’t wait to dig in and just piggyback read these books!
