If you’ve been following my blog for a little while, you know July was a chaotic month for so many reasons, but August … well, I have no complaints about August?
Except maybe that it flew by and no one gave it permission to do that. I actually had a really good August, which is a win that I so desperately needed at this point.
So let’s get into a few things that happened in August.
- My grandfather turned 89 years old. There was no cake, because he insisted he didn’t want any, which is a sham, I tell you. Birthdays require cake. If you don’t want cake … think of all the people attending! I guarantee they’re expecting cake! We cooked him dinner, and he seemed to have a good time, so that’s always a good thing.
- I went into interview request mode, since author interviews was a thing I really wanted to happen more for this blog this year … so I’m super excited to say that I’ve got more interviews coming up! I have a lot of fun with author interviews (and I hope they do, too, with my questions?), and I’m so thankful to the authors who have taken time to answer my questions. Hopefully, you all enjoy reading them? Because there are at least three more coming up in the next two months, with authors that I think you’ll enjoy getting to know more about. I sure did.
- The diverse book drive at my library starts NEXT WEEK, which means the Tour the World in 30 Books blog tour I’m hosting does, too. Click that handy link up there to learn more about the blog tour. Also keep an eye out on September 1 for my kickoff post and me introducing the book I’ve chosen to donate for the book drive! Hint: it’s middle grade, full of adventures, and based on Mexican mythology. I’ll be donating it in my assistant director’s memory. I can’t wait for this blog tour to get underway and to share all these wonderful books with you!
- I applied to graduate school to get a master’s in library science! This has been a bit of a wild ride. It’s something I’ve been considering in the past year, because my assistant director always said she’d need an assistant director when she became the director. So it was a, yeah, okay, maybe in the distant future I’d consider going back. Well, life sort of … happened … and now the library needs a director AND an assistant director, and it’s lead to a lot of difficult decisions and choices. I’ve officially put in my resume for a position, but I’ve decided to go get my master’s regardless of whether I get it or not, because I can finally say for sure that I want to be a librarian for life. I’ve never really knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, so this feels a little like a revelation, even if it should be an obvious choice (me + books forever = duh).
So that was my month. And now let’s get on with the books!

Blogger Post Love
Here are some great posts this month from other bloggers:✦ Toya @ The Reading Chemist shares an honest dear white people letter from her white husband, plus some Black book recommendations.
✦ Bri @ Books and Shadows shares five mistakes she made as a newbie book blogger.
✦ Arina @ The Bookwyrm’s Guide to the Galaxy wrote a really comprehensive beginner’s guide to blog tours, which I can’t recommend enough if you’ve been considering trying blog tours for the first time (or if you’re new to it in general).
✦ Andrew @ On My Bookshelf shared a really handy infographic on the new social media image sizes for 2020 (because they seem to change that mess every other day, don’t they?!).
✦ Krysta & Briana @ Pages Unbound are on fire this month with posts supporting libraries, and because I’m not a all biased when it comes to this, I think you should check them all out. They talk about easy ways to support your local library through word-of-mouth marketing, plus 10 digital resources you can take advantage of from most public libraries, and then, to wrap it all up, they unpack five misconceptions people may have about public libraries.
✦ Over at the Witty and Sarcastic Bookclub, she shares some self-published fantasy book suggestions in preparation for September, which is Self-Published Fantasy Book Month.
✦ Sim @ Flipping Through the Pages shares four tips for completing a reading challenge, for those who are like me and struggle with it!

Me: It’s fine. It’s dead.
M: I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I were you.
Me: But it’s dead?
M: *whispers* Not to necromancers.
Me: … *quickly ushers potentially undead beast to a more fitting eternal resting place*

For anyone who thinks they’re just “small potatoes” …
Just remember that even large potatoes were once seeds. So look at that, you’re already partway there. Don’t give up. ♥️

Guys. I finally did the thing. I applied to graduate school. 😱
— Sammie (The Bookwyrm’s Den) (@srbetler) August 27, 2020
If you had told me 10 years ago I was going to go get a master’s in library science, I would’ve laughed. I never intended to get more than a bachelor’s. Yet here we are.
Moving on to better and greater things. ❤️
Thats so cool about getting your masters! And I hope you get the job too😁
